Hi I’m Jake, I’m currently a junior in high school. I got a really bad SAT score (1650 Math:620 Writing: 520 [7/12 on essay] Reading:510) on my 1st SAT and I’m planning to take it one more time in June and again in the fall of my senior year. I’ve been trying to study lately but it hasn’t been working out, I keep getting off track and I feel like my studying isn’t helping me out at all. I’ve had tutors before but I feel like I work best studying on my own. I have less than a month before my June 6th SAT and I really need help.
- Are there any studying tips you guys can give me?
- What is the best/fastest way to get my SAT score to a 1920+?
- I know many say that race doesn’t play a factor in getting into colleges, but I believe it does. I’m Asian, will I have to get a higher score on my SAT score to get into a good college?
- What should I use to study other than the SAT book that College Board provides?
- What is a good study schedule?
- How do I prepare for the essay portion?
- I do really bad on the reading and writing portion, what’s the best/fastest way to improve in these sections?
I have 3 weeks to prepare
How many tries and how long did you prepare before you got a 2180?
By the way, what is a good book for improving on the passage based questions?
My first score was 1620 on practice test. Well like 3 work hard months. For CR passages the prep black book does a great job explaining that.
- PRACTICE, PRACTICE, PRACTICE and buy a lot of Prep books (Barron’s is my favorite)
- PRACTICCCCEEEE and TIME yourself
- Honestly it might be
- The Barrons books are wonderful. I recommend the Barron’s 6 Practice Tests, Barron’s SAT and Barron’s SAT flashcards
- I personally would recommend you do whole sections at a time and TIME yourself.
- I did not prepare, but there are many useful online tips on how to structure and write your essay.
- Practice reading and answering questions and again, TIME yourself. Timing is so important.
In the end, make sure you correctly answer questions in a pressured and short timed test. If you have the summer to study then this is what you should do (do this in order):
- Study to learn- Open your prep books and go over the topics and identify what you have mastered an have not. Once you know what you have mastered, then learn it.
- Practice- Take many practice tests to see what you know, but don't time yourself
- Practice with time- If you have mastered many of the topics, try to do them under time pressure and fast time, so you know how to do the problems accurately and quickly.
I went up 210 points (2070-2280). YOU CAN DO IT
