I took the recent October SAT and received a 2240:
Math - 800
Reading - 740
Writing - 700 (9 essay)

I'm a Junior, and this was my first attempt. Now i'm going to be taking the upcoming January SAT, and I really want to improve upon my writing section and hopefully be done with the SAT after this 2nd attempt. What can I do specifically to improve upon my writing section? I'm taking more practice tests right now, but is there anything that will really boost my writing section? It's always my worst section, and i'm not sure how to improve. I thought my essay was fine, so i'm not entirely sure why I got a low score. Do you guys have an essay tips as well?

do lots of grammar exercises. be very familiar with common grammar errors. imo the grammar section is the easiest way to improve your score

for your essay, make sure you have a list of 5-10 solid examples you can refer back to and mold to fit whatever prompt comes up. also make sure you write a substantial amount, aim for at least 1.5 page. its hard to get a very high essay score without length.

Like viviank216 posted, knowing the rules of grammar and what is considered “proper” English will help you raise you Writing score.

In my opinion, the key to the Writing section is to have a good proofreading eye. So an intimate knowledge of grammatical conventions AND a keen, observant eye for errors will help you reach 800. So practicing a lot will help; you should be able to read a sentence once and notice immediately what’s wrong with it.

This doesn’t work for everyone, but me doing the writing section just meant me reading the exercises in my head (not the vocab or paragraph editing) and picking out the logical answer.
