MI3 isn’t really equivalent to a math topic. I started out in MI4; while I knew about 50% of the MI4 content roughly speaking (which meant I didn’t study well before coming to imsa, haha…), my friend didn’t know anything we learned in MI4 before. I believe (hopefully I’m correct, as I only took MI4 from the MI sequence) that you learn multiple math topics in each MI course (e.g. you will see trig in MI3 and MI4). It depends on the amount of each topic (e.g. Algebra II, Geometry) you know and how well you know them (as in the depth of the math topic).
Is there an Applicant Class of 2022 discussion? I haven’t been able to find it. If there is, can someone please send me the link? Thanks.
I think your chances will be pretty high. I’m guessing you’re from DHS, I went there last year. The only semi-difficult class freshmen year is Biology Honors but you should still be prepared because it can get stressful. Honestly though, you should stay at DHS and support the chess, scholastic bowl, and math teams, based on your awards.
Hi,
My son is on the Waitlist. He got his placement results. Although he did very well at German as a freshman in his highschool, he did not get German as his list of choices. Something does not seem right. Is the level of foreign language so high at IMSA or there are not sufficient spots? He has been asked to take another language. And that means all the effort put into German is fruitless.
I would say whatever the score your son received on the placement test, he would’ve been placed (at the lowest) in German I. Did your son place German as his first choice foreign language choice? Is he partly German (if so, he isn’t allowed to take German at IMSA)? This seems odd. The level of foreign language at IMSA isn’t the most challenging for German, so I would suggest giving a phone call to IMSA about this.
Thanks birdie02 for your response. He is not German, so that’s ruled out. I did have a word with IMSA. I learnt that he did not make the cutoff which is tough to believe; as he was a topper in freshman year. The other thing is that these placements are final. Which leaves no wriggle room. Yes, German was his first choice.
Hi, I can’t find a 2022 applicant forum so i am just going to ask here. Is the southwest region competitive, and what is considered a good SAT score to get admitted to IMSA
You can try making the IMSA Applicant Class of 2022 forum yourself…?
The southwest region isn’t competitive as northern Illinois. I would be inclined to believe that a good score to get into IMSA is roughly in the 1300s or something (by my rough estimates and by asking a few of my friends), but do be aware that IMSA looks at your application holistically; you can bomb the SAT and still get in if other parts of your application are strong.
Thanks for your advice. I think I’ll apply to see whether or not I get in, and then decide if I want to go.
I had the same problem as your son. The year I applied only 5 students were accepted into German 1, so it is definitely a competitive class to test into. Maybe he can study German on the side if he has time?
Wow, that statistic is shocking for me, at least. Just saying, once you become a junior you can switch into German I or you can take two languages at once (a junior did in my sophomore year).
There’s now a chat for IMSA Applicants 2022 @alwaystired11 . It’s called IMSA Applicant Class of 2022, and here’s the link:

@scrunchies I was in the waitpool and I got a call Friday (July 13) saying that I had been pulled out of the waitpool. However, I am sure that I am not the first to get pulled out. There’s still a while to go and I hope you get accepted!
Hey, I’m a incoming sophomore in IMSA. I got placed into Math 3/4, but I’ve already taken math classes till Pre-Calculus. I was just wondering, if i can ask them to change it to Math4/BC,
Yes, you can do that; however, I highly suggest that you stay in your math level. Before coming to IMSA, I took classes up to Pre-Calc and I was sorted into MI-4, and wondered why I didn’t qualify for the Calc section, because I already learned Pre-Calc. However, IMSA’s math curriculum helped me build a stronger Pre-Calc base, and this was pretty nice in my opinion. I’m not sure what you mean by MI-3/4 and MI-4/Calc, but both MI 3 and 4 are Pre-Calc and various other topics. There is no Calc in MI-4. A friend of mine took Calculus her freshmen year and got A’s but started with MI-3 at IMSA, and she struggled with math (a bit). I would be inclined to believe that the placement testing is trustworthy and you shouldn’t think too much about your placement - IMSA’s math curriculum is pretty rigorous.
I know that IMSA says you don’t have to take the SAT with the essay, but will taking the essay give them a better impression of you?
I think ur rejected, sry dude. IMSA prob isn’t that great anyway. @HariKrishnan
