in a dilemma

just found out that no med schools will accept ap credit......i have spent my soph, junior, and this year so far studying like crazy and passing ap tests and i am really upset. i cant believe they dont accept ap credit.Did i just waste 3 years of my life taking meaningless tests that wont help me out. most of all im pist at all my teachers, peers, and parents persuading me that taking an ap test will be beneficial but now that the med schools dont accept ap credit i will probably have to retake the classes ..how dumb! someone reinterate this for me please

(As far as I know) you can use AP credit, but you probably shouldn't for stuff that comes up on the MCAT. I'm pretty sure you can safely get credit with APUSH/AP Psych/AP Gov, etc.

Okay, first off.

1.) Some medical schools do accept it, but the problem is that you will probably have to apply to some that don't.
2.) AP courses matter to undergraduate schools, so they still matter.
3.) AP courses in non-prerequisite areas (history, language, etc.) can still be used.
4.) ... reinterate?
5.) Taking hard courses is still good for you.
6.) If the past three years of your life have been all about taking AP tests, then yes, they have been wasted. And not because you took the tests.

also i read that if i do take my pre reqs ( bio chem etc ) is it bad if its taken at a JC over the summer ( only because of cheaper price )

Yes. Don't do that.

also what about calc? would it be considered non-prerequisite area?

You should take a full year of math at the college level, so either Calc II/Stats or Calc III/Stats or Calc I/II, etc.

okay so if i do take calc ab ap test and pass it...then get credit and move onto 2nd semester at the university im going to will med school still accept that ap credit? or no?

What? No, but who cares? They'll accept the second semester and whatever extra course you use to fill the year.

so why is it bad if i take a pre req at a jc?

Because some medical schools won't count them, because the rest probably don't look fondly on them, because they look easy so an A is meaningless but anything less really hurts you, because they interfere with other things you should be doing during the summer, because the raise concern that you're trying to avoid difficult things at your home school, because you might not get the foundation you need for future coursework and testing...

I can keep going, if you need.

its fine but yea thanks for all the information im quite shocked... tomorrow ill call the university i plan on going too and talk to their medical adviser for more info it seems like im bugging ppl with the monotous questions

The main thing is that I'm confused about why you seem to be so distressed by this. So you retake the science classes. Why is this such a big deal?

i dunno i just kinda wanted to be ahead but its what ever ..but not only that im just kinda pist that i wasted a **** load of time. i could have been out and about getting drunk or with my girlfriend or something fun

I like where your head's at.

But seriously, AP's do matter for getting into college (as I understand it) and they should make college a little easier. You'll at least have better study habits.
