"In addition to any work experience that you listed on your application, please tell us how you spent your most recent summer vacation."

I did volunteer work almost everyday this summer. I listed the volunteer positions on the EC section and on my resume but do they want it again on this supplement or do they want to know what else I did this summer.
Honestly, my summer WAS volunteering; I didn’t do much else except my summer reading.

When I was applying for college, the NYU admission officer for my area came to visit my school. I asked the exact same question and he said that it’s not suppose to be a test of your aptitude, just to get to know you as a person. They’re looking for diversity and honesty. So you could say: aside from volunteer work I… caught some gnarly swells on the north shore and sipped pino-colada’s (non alcoholic of course) while listening to the soft sounds of the ukulele.

Okay so you probably didn’t do that, but it’s sort of thing they’re looking for.

I know that but I actually did do volunteer work every day of the summer. I just don’t want my volunteer work to appear in 3-4 places (EC section, resume, councelor rec, and a supplement). AND one of my essays (I have 3 that I need to choose from) is about my experience volunttering for the Smithsonian.
