Hello, I had a question about in-state and out-of-state tuition. If I live in Maryland, and I apply to a university in Washington D.C. will I be counted as an out-of-state student or in-state student?
Thank you in advance.

For questions of residency, you should ALWAYS consult the school in question. If you are considering the University of the District of Columbia (are there any other public institutions in DC?) then there are a couple Maryland counties (Montgomery, Prince Georges) that qualify for resident tuition:
http://www.udc.edu/docs/admissions/Residency%20Policy.pdf
There’s only 1 DC Public College(University of DC), in that case, ask the school if that have reciprocity(nearby OOS counts as in-state).
If you’re not applying to Univ. of DC(a community college) then it won’t matter, as every other DC school is Private(IS & OOS Private pay the same)
What school is it?
Did you apply to Maryland Publics?(UMCP,Towson,UMBC,etc.)
This student is an int’l…he may not get “instate” rates at a DC public. This would have to be researched.
That said, why even consider Univ of DC? Hardly anyone has heard of it. If you are going to high school in Maryland, then you may get instate rates there.
Update: I got a permanent residency
thank you! I was thinking of George Washington University and the like
As mentioned upthread, George Washington is private and so there is no break (or penalty) for state of residency
Please look at each school’s website for information on tuition and whether or not the school is private or public.
so as I understood, if the university is private then the cost is the same for in-state and out-of-state students, am I correct? Thank you all for the replies.
Yes
Privates schools charge the same tuition to all, but sometimes there are state grants and funds available to residents that might not be available to non-residents. GA has Hope, Florida has Bright Futures, etc. Some states have grants or loan programs available only to residents.
