In at Duke, but waitlisted at Northwestern?

Wow! Admissions can be pretty random.

Haha, completely opposite here. In at Northwestern and waitlisted at Duke.

Yeah, I don't get it either...

Haha me too! (Same as OP). Well, Duke is more selective than NW, so it's not as surprising the other way around... my guess is possible over-qualification? I was also waitlisted at WashU, but in at Rice.

I'm in the same boat as you hotasice.

yeah I'm in at NW and wl at Duke, deeply wish it was the other way around...duke's admissions seems kinda random, as does nw's.

I mean both are selective school; one can argue that Duke is a bit harder, but NU is nowhere near easy.

In at Rice, Duke, and NU today (best day this year)

For one.. they are different schools..

laugh. I got a likely letter from Dartmouth. Waitlisted at Duke, and acceptance from Northwestern.

Rejected by Northwestern, In at Duke

i wish i could log on to get my northwestern decision......

In at Northwestern and waitlisted at Duke. haha

i would give anything to trade. waitlist duke in at NU

In at Northwestern and waitlisted at Duke. haha x2

Accepted Northwestern.
REJECTED DUKE. I'M REALLY UPSET.

My experience (10 years ago): Columbia College (In), Northwestern (In), Brown (WL then reject), Duke (Reject)

Some things don't change...like college admission randomness

Duke is not much harder to get into than NU

Collegeboard:

Northwestern: 1350-1520, acceptance rate: 27 percent
Duke: 1340-1540, acceptance rate: 23 percent

The SAT median at NU and Duke is almost the same. There is a 4 percent difference in acceptance rates. The schools are very similar in admissions difficulty. My friend's sister got into Duke but waitlisted at Northwestern.

wow, i always thought that duke is so much harder to get into than NU. i thought it was as hard as ivies, but i guess i was wrong...i still think it's really weird that people get into duke but not NU. For these people - will you go to duke? just out of curiosity...

I'm sure the applicant pool at Duke is stronger. Northwestern....doesn't really have a strong engineering program at all. Duke? Yes...

You know...there is more to Northwestern (and Duke) than their respective engineering programs. Gasp! I know!

Both applicant pools are strong; Duke is not significantly "better" or "harder" than Northwestern to get into. Congratulations to anyone and everyone who got into either or both schools!

Northwestern is considered the Ivy of the Midwest, while Duke the Ivy of the South, with Rice not far behind Duke.

They're both amazing schools. No need to gripe about one being better than the other; anyone going to either school will receive a great education!

Actually I think the arguement could easily be made that Northwestern has a much better engineering program if you exclude BME.
