Everyone here seems to have a 4.0 uw GPA or something around there...wouldn't that mean that all these people are getting 100 averages? That would mean never making any mistakes...??

4.0 is usually equivalent to straight A’s, therefore having a 90+ average

^ bingo. Stress that 90% part. I really doubt most of the students with 4.0s would have an average above 95

It also depends on several other factors:

Does the school use only straight letter grades or +/- grades. If just letter grades, then that 4.0 means an A, of the school uses +/- it might mean enough to get an A, or it might mean an A+ (as at our local high school - an A in a standard level class is 3.8). Then add in how “easy” of “difficult” teachers are with their grading systems, or how they scale grades, and you can see a 4.0 can mean all sorts of different things.

I have a 3.9 GPA and I would guess about a 91 average. Although, if my grades were calculated based off of %, I would guess my average would be around 93. As many other students in straight letter grading systems, I slack when I’m over a 94.
