<p>I was just wondering if a 4.0 GPA = 100%. I see so many people on this site with 4.0 GPA's getting rejected from Harvard and it really scares the s*** out of me. No one that I know of in my school has ever had a 100% in all their classes, so although I used to be under the impression that a 4.0 was a perfect average, I'm not so sure now...</p>

<p>It depends on the school. My daughter's HS uses a sliding scale. Only 100% averages earn a 4.0. A 95 would be a 3.75 or so. No one has a 4.0 unweighted at her school.</p>

<p>At my school you take your grade and divide it by 100 multiply by 4.</p>

<p>95.102/100*4=3.80408</p>
<p>wow that's really misleading. most schools give an "A" grade to anyone with a 90% or above in any given class. adding those up, that's a big fat 4.0.</p>

<p>In HS if you got an A (90-100) that would be 4. B (71-89) that would be 3 etc.</p>
<p>Then they would divide the total by 10 (the number of courses).</p>
<p>so 10 b's would be 3x10=30. 30/10 = 3.00.</p>
<p>Same would apply for college (College of the Bahamas) except A = 4 = 90%+, A- = 85-89 = 3.75. etc.</p>
<p>So then if you got 5b's then it would be 5x3 = 15. 15/5 = 3.00.</p>

<p>at my school it's 93 or better =) yeah, here's the thing though; to get a 4.0 w/ beastly classes you basically would have 95-98 in all of them... otherwise something random will happen (statistically) and you'll slip down to a 92.4 and get a B which looks awful for a no-percentage school.</p>

<p>Honestly, I think this "if the standards were different I'd have an A" bit is crap - people in my school complain constantly but those with 92% now would just have 89% if we changed. It's the mentality of "this is when I can slack, and this when I can't" as well as teachers curving/planning for a certain number to get A's.</p>
<p>this is why colleges ask for your class ranking, your gpa could be a 9.9 but if your school was on a 15pt scale they would know u werent that amazing. class ranking gives a true idea of how well your doing compared to classmates</p>

<p>At my school, an A is 4, B is 3, C is 2, D is 1, and F is 0. There are no pluses or minuses. I'm not sure if we have a numerical average or not, since I've never seen a transcript that included them. Of course, you can keep track of your course grade throughout the semester, which would enable you to figure out your numerical average for the class (assuming the teacher doesn't include "intangibles" such as class participation or attitude in the final grade).</p>
