How much are/were the educational fees (tuition and other educational charges) for this person for the 2014-15 academic year? FM-125A

How much are/were the charges for room and board (housing and meals) for this person for the 2014-15 academic year? FM-126A

1) do we have to enter the sticker price of the school for educational fees? My sister got a full scholarship so technically she didn't pay any tuition. Should we put 0? or the amount that everyone was charged (lets say $30,000?)

2) she lives off campus, so do we put the apartment rent fee for the (housing and meals) section, or again, the amount that the school charges for room and board this year?

Thank you so much everyone!
CSS profile can be confusing

I disagree. I would put down what the CHARGES were using COA numbers. What the student got towards them is a whole other question. Be aware that schools do call to verify sibling attendance and some are asking about awards as well. CHARGES are not PAYMENTS.

Cpte…aren’t they asking for educational fees that were PAID for 2014-2015? That is the current year. If the family is not paying any costs, then they would not indicate that they were.

Charges and payments are two different things. My son’s school has charges and then credits towards them. IF they want what was actually paid they should ask that. Those schools who take that into account check anyways. They want to make sure the kid is in school even. When applying for aid, I take the question in the most beneficial way to the student as possible since if it has a narrower view or restrictions, the school can address that afterwards. If you put down the more restrictive info, it’s not likely to get upped. You can always take away, rarely get more. They will verify the info. It used to be that PROFILE asked for a listing of family members, asked for the name of the school, year in school and specifically asked for scholarships/grants for each student received for the prior school as well as Parent’s contribution.towards that year. That made it very easy to answer. I haven’t looked at this year’s PROFILE so I dont know what the new format is and how they word the questions. MOst schools are verifying, from what I’ve been told and do ask for the amounts.

I agree that the questions the OP posted aren’t entirely clear in using the word charges. But I would tend to agree with thumper1 on this. But isn’t there help you can click on within profile to get a fuller explanation of how to answer particular questions like with fafsa. The interactive profile presentation indicates there is.

OP, have you looked at any help available within profile to get more info about how to answer the questions? If there is additional explanation of the question using the help function, you could post that here.

Yes! The word FEES were very confusing because there is the sticker price and the amount we actually pay…
When I click the (?) button next to the question on CSS profile it only says

“If this person attended or is attending a tuition-charging school, college, or university, enter or estimate the total educational fees for 2014-15, including tuition and fees and books and supplies. Only include expenses directly related to this student’s education, not to extracurricular activities such as sports or band.”

-It IS a tuition-charging school.
-It says ESTIMATE but then right after it says “including tuition and fees”.
-There is a section where we can put in the amount of scholarship the sister received.

If we put $0 for the (How much are/were the educational fees (tuition and other educational charges) for this person for the 2014-15 academic year? FM-125A) question, and then $ for scholarship section, wont that mean that she has surplus amount of money from the scholarship since we say that she pays $0 for the tuition?

I THINK we put down the sticker price… but again, I was very confused and wanted to make sure

Hmm…from what you are writing, you would put the charges on that first line, and then the actual scholarship on a separate line. That would show your school that your family net cost is $0 for your sister.

But really, I haven’t seen this year’s Profile…hoping others weigh in.

Oh that’s right. It should show that there is a net price of $0. Just in case others don’t weigh in on time (this is due today for me. didnt submit yet because i wanted to make sure on this) I will mention on the "explanations’ section at the end that the sister got a 4 year scholarship. I don’t know if I’m making a mistake though. I can’t afford to, since I really need financial aid. I hope the explanations will be sufficient enough but i am still worrying a little bit

I have the same question as osojess . Do you know now if the sticker price was the right amount to put on PROFILE question FM-125A? Thank you in advance.

Overseasmom…what are you referring to? Perhaps starting your own thread with your specific questions would be a better idea, and would yield more responses.

There should be space where you put in what the school charges…and there should be another space where you put the grants/scholarships…so then there is a net cost.
