Here are some pictures of the lights from the World Trade Center from across the Long Island sound from the US Merchant Marine Academy. It was amazing to see.

haha prayerful mom, thank goodness for fox news! :-/

and awesome pics flynavy... all of them.

perhaps it is because we live in NYC's "back yard," but we saw quite a bit of coverage on 9/11 on several channels in our area- I wish I could tell you which ones (they were probably on cable network)...but one televised the reading of every name and the pre-post ceremonies, another relived the events of 9/11 in NYC, PA and Washington....our local news channel also did a beautiful peace on Long Islanders killed in the twin towers- and our church held a special ceremony for those families in our immediate area from the parish that were lost-
it was almost too much to bare-
maybe still just too close to home.
I just wish our country could move forward like so many of these brave families and get something accomplished at the trade center site- this scar does nothing to honor those lost- just something where people can go and find some peace other than staring down at an empty hole in the ground-
that is my one wish, for NY and for everyone who comes here.

speaking of coming here, for those of you who are visiting Kings Point this weekend (Jamzmom and prayerfulmom) thought I'd let you know that while the weather report for Thurs-Fri is not so good (cloudy with a good chance of rain...we need it!)...the outlook for Sat and Sun is much better....clearing on Sat with sun in the afternoon, sunday partly cloudy...both days in the high 70's (76-78)....which is perfect visiting weather on LI...and gas prices are starting to come down...$3.29 yesterday for regular down to $3.19 today (heard $3.10 on the NJ Tpke)....so perhaps things are looking up afterall! have a safe trip!

Navy 2010....

I live in Pa, where 17 people from our community perished on 9/11 including the pilate of the first plane... really all so heartbreaking. Locally, they had a memorail service for those; however, i remain disappointed that so many in the Nation seem to have forgotten...

Thanks again for all your very helpful info. some of which I have printed and am taking with me. Especially thanks for the latest weather update. I know we need the rain but I really hope it does NOT rain on their parade!

OK, Jamzmom it is almost here, YEAH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

preyerful mom- it does my heart good to see so many flags out around here----so sad for your community too----our kids generation will always remember---

it won't dare rain on your parade! :)

The photos are truly great flynavy! Thanks for sharing. The lights were indeed brighter this year with ya'll up there.
And thanks for the info Navy2010! Could you just blow real hard to the east alittle & push that storm out a bit more? I've packed my umbrella anyhow :(

jamzmom: know your packing, and maybe already on the road! weather report: rained today- lots of clouds overhead, but moving out...hope it takes this humidity with it...supposed to be clearing up starting sat afternoon, then sunny/partly cloudy on sunday (the better of the 2 days for sure)....weather only in the mid-upper 70's, so bring a light sweater for when you are near the water! Have a great trip!

as for us...shipped our son off to his foundation school last wednesday, thought we wouldn't get to see him until PW mid-oct, but low and behold, we had to go and retrieve him last night....sick as a dog with mono.....go figure! and this, at an all-boys school!!!!! how does that happen???? (then again, there was that parade of girls coming through here on his last night home- one with cupcakes, one with brownies, one with cookies- all for the ride----HUMMMM!!!! gotta talk to that boy!)...he has to stay home for a week, and if all goes well, we get to make the round trip again next sunday- well, at least we get to enjoy his company, sick as it is, for a few days! :(

what happens when kids get mono at the academies anyway? how about with DODMERB?

have a safe trip up! enjoy the regatta at KP...heard NAVY is coming to compete! hope the wind holds up for that!
