<p>i have a B.S. in mechanical engineering and have been working for a little over a year in various boring "mechanical engineering" jobs, but by now, i've figured that i don't have a mechanical aptitude, which is necessary to have to be a successful mechanical engineer. i really regret not taking Java, C/C++, Python while i was still in college. by i'm beginning to be desperate for a career change, hopefully to get into software/IT, which i think is more suitable and enjoyable for me. long story short, i really want to be doing something i enjoy rather than being stuck in a boring manufacturing company that isn't exciting. i'm young and can learn pretty fast. i just don't want my youth and potential to be snuffed out of me by the boring job that i'm doing now. do any of you know anyone or you yourself have majored in a non-CS major and ended working in software engineering or IT? please give me some hope. would taking a programming class in a community college suffice for employers to consider me? thanks in advance for any advice</p>
<p>You could learn some programming and demonstrate your knowledge to employers that way.
The CS market is actually really good right now. Apply away and see how you do.</p>
