In need of guidence

Hi I just finished my first year semester of college and am starting the second this Monday, lately I've been really struggling if I want to do my major or not, which is business, specifically small. I'm currently in a county college, before I get into my question I would just like to provide some information.

When I was in high school I really didn't do anything, and its now showing in by what courses I took and still have to take in college. I thought I had it planned out, go to college get a business degree, then a trade as an electrician. Unfortunately after a lot of discouraging reading about business majors, and what my hearts telling me I think I made the wrong choice. I'd like to transfer over to Rowan into their Engineering Program for Electronic Engineering specifically and a minor in computer science, or possibly double major. My concern is I've wasted money and well frankly I just wont make it.

As said earlier I'm very behind because of my lack of ambition in high school. This is a list of the classes from my community college for students interested in transferring into a junior program at a 4 year college.

FIRST YEAR - Fall Semester Credits
________ MAT 108 Calculus I 4
________ CHM 111 General Chemistry I 4
________ SOC 130 Society and Technology 3
________ DFT 103 CADD I ((AutoCAD) 3
________ COM 101 English Composition I 3
17
Spring Semester
________ MAT 122 Calculus II 4
________ CHM 112 General Chemistry II 4
________ PHY 201 Physics with Calculus I 4
________ ENR 207 Engineering Materials 3
________ COM 102 English Composition II 3
18

SECOND YEAR - Fall Semester
________ MAT 221 Calculus III 4
________ ENR 211 Engineering Statics 3
________ PHY 202 Physics with Calculus II 4
________ CSC Programming Elective 4
____ Humanities Elective 3
18
Spring Semester
________ MAT 205 Differential Equations 4
________ ENR 212 Mechanics of Materials 3
________ ____ ____ Humanities Elective 3
________ ____ ____ Social Science Elective 3
________ HPE ____ Physical Education Elective 1-3
________ ENR 213 Dynamics (optional) (3) 14-16

Now of those classes I'm no where near the math level at all, I'm just getting into Algebra I this semester. I'll be taking the English Composition II this spring also, but my main concern is that I'm signed up for a Principals of Marketing class, and I'm already taken a computer Literacy(Microsoft Word) for a business degree. I banged out my Physical Education requirement last semester, and I am also taking Philosophy and Public Speaking this semester. Now Public Speaking is a humanity according to my course book, but hopefully I'll be able to use my Philosophy course as my social science, if not I have to take two humanities regardless.

So I am behind and its my fault I realize, and I am prepared to take classes this summer, and next winter. My question is will I even be able to make it in time? My SAT scores are not too hot, and I am prepared to take them again.

Do you think I should drop the Principals of Marketing class? Better yet do you think I'd even have a chance at making it into an engineering program being this far behind?

My main concern is, if I can't get every class on that list in time, would I still have a chance?

Sorry for the long post, I just have no one to talk to about this.

It is entirely possible for you to complete the requirements for an engineering transfer program, and for you to successfully complete the degree requirements in Engineering. 99% of getting something done is just sitting down and doing it.

What you will almost certainly not be able to do is finish this in only four years because you need to get up to the right level in Math. On Monday, stop by the advising center on campus, and ask for help devising a plan to get you from where you are now to where you want to be. Maybe you can catch up with summer school, maybe you will need an extra semester, but since you are at a community college at least you won’t have to break the bank to do this.

Wishing you all the best!
