I have just recently heard from my STRIVE coordinator that South Carolina has a deal with Georgia where they allow some students get in state tution to some of their schools(some of these schools being USC, UGA, Clemson, GA Tech, SCAD, College Of Charelston). I was wondering if anyone knew which schools these were, if this is true, and if anyone could give me a online site which would give me some more information.

Most states participate in regional programs that permit students who major in a program not that is not offered at one of the home-state public Us, to attend that program at another state’s public U for in-state tuition. South Carolina and Georgia are part of the Academic Common Market. I don’t know which regional group (if any) that New Jersey participates in.

To take advantage of this kind of program, usually you have to apply to the OOS school and be accepted first, and then petition for the in-state rate based on the agreement. Remember that this option is only available if the major doesn’t exist within your home state university system. Here is the link for students in the Academic Common Market region: [Academic Common Market/Regional Contract Program](Academic Common Market - Southern Regional Education Board)

In addition, some individual states will allow state merit scholarship holders to take that money out of state if the program a student wants is not available in state. I understand that Meteorology students from Maryland often study in Pennsylvania because the major isn’t available here. To find out if this option is available in your state, contact the office responsible for state merit scholarships and tuition grants.

Thanks for the information. This is only if the state that you live in does not offer a specific major in which you want to pursue, you can go to one of the schoools that does offer that major out of state, for the in state tuition price. I was just wondering if there was anything where I can just go to a school in georgia for the in state tutition price.

Mass Maritime Academy has a reciprocal program for students from other states…not sure what the limits are, but I do know of a 2009 grad from our area ( NJ ) who chose them because of their program and how affordable it is for their family
