In-State Tuition Questions

Hi, so I moved from Tennessee to Kentucky this summer (summer of 2020), and I am looking at possibly going to UT Knoxville next year. Is there any way for me to get in-state tuition since I lived there very recently? I know it’s a long shot but I figured I should at least ask. Sadly I can’t use the ACM option because my major doesn’t line up with the ones they accept for the program.

Where do your parents live? That usually defines your state for college admissions.

My parents live in Kentucky, I moved with them.

You need to talk to the department at UT-K , and get the pertinent info from them. Also look up the information on the website

Usually, anyone who is not independent (under 24, not married, no dependents, non veteran etc) is considered a resident of where there parents are living. But “usually” is not specifically, and doesn’t matter to you specifically. You need to know specifically how UTKnoxville defines in state for undergraduate dependent purposes. Look on line and read what they say before calling the bursar’s office , Dean of students office. Sometime there are exceptions for high school graduates of a state, when you applied, status when you applied. It can vary widely from state to state
