in-state vs. out-of-state, is it worth it?

so far i have been accepted to pretty much all teh colleges i applied. i’m seriously considering university of illinois at champaign urbana (uiuc)'s Electrical engineering and north carolina state university. nc state is ranked about 19 and uiuc is about 4 on the us news week. uiuc: 33000/ year and nc state: 13000/ year. i’m really frustrating about whether or not going out-of-state and taking student loans for it. i have talked to several engineers including my dad who doesn’t think that undergrad woudl matter that much if i wanna go to grad school. and the difference between uiuc and nc state is pretty slim. plz share some of your thoughts here. thanks

I personally think you should stay in state just because 4 and 19 are just numbers. they will both give you a good education. I personally don't believe in spending additional money on a public school where you'll have to pay out of state. A difference would be if uiuc was ranked 4 and nc state like 90.

thanks, anyone else? :)

I have a similar situation. I want Mechanical Engineering...U of FL is FREE (Bright Futures Scholarship) and Georgia Tech is about $28,000. Evidently, based on FAFSA, I won't qualify for any financial aid anywhere : ( I don't know what to do.

i almost wanted to go to ga tech, but i heard their professors are very arrogant, unhelpful and a lot of them are foreigners who can't speak very good ENglish, so i chose uiuc over ga tech. i dunno which one is more prestigious, uiuc or ga tech. anyway, i'm probably going to borrow money to attend out-of-state.... sucks!!
