In the real world, do students actually get into their reach schools?

And I’ll add that today, even 75% of some of the hooked groups are being rejected! At most ivies nearly that percentage of legacy applicants don’t get in now, and where top URMs used to breeze in, they are now rejected at that level too.

@Hmom: I am now also better aquainted with your overall approach, it was the lack of encouragement to look at those other schools in your posts that got to me. You are very blunt, which some students obviously need, but i don’t think you encourage them to look at those other schools you mentioned often enough. If they knew that you wanted them to focus on those schools instead of their seemgly unattainable reaches, then they would A) not wan to kill themselves and B) have greater respect for your advice. That is, once again, just my opinion.

In the REAL WORLD (not CC) people don’t even have “reaches”. They mostly apply to a few schools where they have a very good shot at admission. Only here would applying to 12 colleges including three of HYPMS be considered normal.
