In what schools can I get a full scholarship?

Hi, I really need help
My family will be unable to pay for college unless I get a scholarship
here are my Stats
4.239- weighted Gpa
3.99-unweighted
I took 5 ap classes
Euro-5
Bio-4
Apush-5
Seminar-3
Lang-4
Sat II (us history)-790
Sat II(bio)-770
I am planning on taking 5+ ap classes next year
My ranking in my old school was 9/496-I moved this summer
SAT-took it January of Junior year)-will retake Senior year- 1250

Are you saying your family can’t pay any money towards your college education?

Is your family low income?

For merit aid…you will need to increase that SAT score a LOT to get a full free ride.

Keep in mind also, most colleges do expect a student contribution of some amount.

Can your parents contribute anything? A full ride is very difficult.

With your current stats full tuition merit is pretty much impossible at any college.

Home state? Intended major? Family income/budget?

maybe a few thousand

My home state was VA-but we moved to Georgia last week-I am undecided rn (but will most likely go into a science field)

family income is less than 50K

Your parents can pay a few thousand? What does that mean exactly? What will they pay each year?

I am wondering if this student should apply to test optional schools that meet full need? Also- Lehigh meets full need and this student may be a match (?). I plugged in a $50,000 a year income on the NPC and got a final cost of about $2000.

Maybe schools that meet need should be the way to approach this rather than merit?

yes- I am fine with colleges who offer need-based financial aid

Thank you for your help

(also by a few thousand- I meant up to 8,000 a year)

If your income is under $50,000 a year and your parents can contribute $8000 a year ( give or take) … I would look up LACs that are test optional. Many of them meet full need- Wake Forest ( not exactly an LAC) is one example. Lehigh also meets full need and I believe it is a match for you with your scores- but you need to show interest. If you can’t afford to visit I would email your admissions counselor and explain.

Make a list of schools and use the Net Price Calculator for every school to get an approximate cost.
You can also look at Franklin and Marshall.

What are the requirements for the Hope scholarship in Georgia?

If the student graduates from a Georgia high school would they have to take a gap year to qualify?

Start with this list:
Lehigh
Wake Forest
Franklin and Marshall
Temple
Oxford at Emory
Bucknell ( may be kind of a match ? with your scores)

If you are a girl, Bryn Mawr and Mount Holyoke are test-optional, and do have decent need-based aid. For a current list of test-optional places, see http://fairtest.org/university/optional Follow the links to get the details about each institution.

I disagree with @twogirls
Oxford of Emory- High Reach
Wake Forest- Reach
UGA- Reach

Try
University of West Ga
Mercer
Ralston College
Berry College
Emory&Henry
URichmond

@VANDEMORY1342 how would the student get a full ride at these schools?

Wake Forest is test optional. I don’t think it’s a huge reach and it meets need.
Oxford at Emory might be a reach but I think it’s worth a shot - the GPA and subject tests are good.
I had Richmond on my original list but I thought it was a reach. Maybe not?

This student has to go with schools that meet full need. With research - including some test optional schools- I think he/she can come up with a good list of about 10 -12 schools.

@thumper1
I was hoping Merit aid as OP has stats higher than the avg. Maybe full tuition is more realistic, especially if OP retakes.
@twogirls
Oxford’s avg is a 32 and the vast majority of applicants at Wake send in SAT/ACT scores. Usually hooked applicants can get in with those stats, which I’m sure OP does not have. OP should apply anyway as they will probably give good fin aid if he/she gets in but I was trying to give OP Matches and Safeties.

@VANDEMORY1342 this student needs a tremendous amount of merit or FA. The parents can pay about $8000 a year, he/she can take out a $5500 Stafford loan and maybe contribute $2000 from a job during senior year. That’s about $15,000 which will cover room/board and maybe books. Will the schools you suggested give enough merit?

I am thinking schools that are test optional that also meet full need is the better path. He/she can also add a few more schools that meet need and ask for scores. I like Bucknell and Franklin and Marshall and think they may be matches (?).

@twogirls I don’t really know, but the best option is to raise stats so schools like USC, Vandy etc. become viable options. All the schools that would be MATCHES for OP won’t offer much fin aid or merit aid.
