In which regions do students produce the highest SAT scores on average?

Do you guys know which countries and which states produce the highest scores on average?

In Korea the 25th percentile is probably 2350

is NJ high too?

for states just look at the psat cut offs

HAHAH fortify. You're probably right

korean kids are so focused and motivated that i actually am a bit scared..

**i mean korean kids in korea. i myself am korean, but compared to those kids.. wow. some of my family friends back there are psycho about studying and getting in to the right college. it really intimidates me.

In the United States, it should be the northeast.

yes, like Massachusetts, Connecticut, Rhode Island, New Jersey...etc.

MASSACHUSETTS!! We got harvard and MIT

Korean kids do great at Math, but struggle at CR and certainly at writing.

Here in the uS , I would say the Northeast and possibly California.

East/West Coast?

Def. not the south haha

Texas has pretty decent scores.

I would say NE (throw New York in there, along with NJ and Massachussetts) and possibly California.

Korea is ridiculous, a 2100 will give you nothing more than a death sentence.

definitely not the midwest...haha.

Does anyone have actual hard facts on all of the states?

State reports
College-Bound Seniors 2008

From above: "definitely not the midwest...haha."

Shame on you for jumping to conclusions. The midwest does have the highest means on the SAT with states like: Mich (1751), Minn (1784), Missouri (1775), Ill (1762), ND (1766), SD (1766), Neb (1733), Kan (1733), and stellar Iowa (1797). The Northeast states can't break 1600 and some are below 1500. Yes, the outbacks in ND slaughter the Mass average.

Of course, all of this easily explanable and indicates that trying to determine the issue of highest average is an exercise in futility. What you are most likely to find is that states that usually take the ACT will have the higher SAT averages and states that usually take the SAT will have the higher ACT averages. That is because the group in any state taking the test that is not the usual test for that state will be a self-selective group which will include a higher percentage of better students from the state. (Then again ... maybe it IS because the midwest is really smarter than the rest of the country)

No, no. The end of the world is not that soon.
