Just in your opinion, how well known is Princeton? Internationally and domestically.
Just a question out of the blues, curious.

I think it is a great university!

Just in your opinion, how well known is Princeton? Internationally and domestically.
Just a question out of the blues, curious.

I think it is a great university!

Domestically it is considered right on par with any top university.

Internationally it is slightly less recognized (lack of professional schools) compared to Harvard, Stanford, MIT, and maybe Berkeley.

Princeton… that’s in New Jersey, right?

(has been said to me)

Princeton… Is that in San Francisco?

(has been said to me)

Also, some have been baffled as to why I would choose Princeton over “an Ivy league like Stanford.”

Most people I’ve encountered who have asked me where I’m going to school know of Princeton, although one guy did ask me what state it was in.

No way. Really?

Wait, isn’t Stanford an ivy league?

Oh, forgot to add: one girl my age thought that UVA was Ivy League.

I’ve never met anyone in the U.S. who had not heard of Princeton but I’ve met plenty of folks who don’t know it’s in New Jersey. On the other hand, I’ve had two educated people (albeit non-lawyers) seriously ask me whether I enjoyed going to law school in New York City when I told them I had graduated from Harvard Law. :)

Yeah, people recognize the school and it’s prestige but don’t necessarily know where it’s located. And in terms of internationally, I know that people in England recognize Princeton. I don’t know about the rest of the world.

One high school senior asked me why I chose Princeton, when another ivy league school, RUTGERS, is closer. I was like wow…

I should qualify what I said by adding that the vast majority of people are aware that Princeton is similar to Harvard and Yale. The most common comment I get is, “Man, it’s really cold out there.” Ironically, a friend going to UChicago rarely hears that it will be cold in Chicago.

I’ve generally observed that white people tend to know lots about Princeton (even that it’s in New Jersey, a real goldmine) while Asian immigrants on the other end of the spectrum have no idea. For them, it’s Harvard or bust.

It’s because it’s way harder for them to pronounce Princeton in their native language.

I’m from England and my teacher said how “fantastic” it is that I’m going to Prince-Town.

The reason that people don’t realize that Princeton is in NJ is because the Ivy League is generally thought to be New England colleges, which Jersey is definitely not. :)

some people think purdue is an ivy league hahaha

I remember some friends talking about locations. One said “there are a lot of great schools in New Jersey”. The other said “Yeah? Name two.”
