Inappropriate to mention first choice in essay.

Is it inappropriate to mention that a college is your first choice in your essay?

The only way I would see that it could backfire is that if you wrote that in all of your essays to different colleges. There is no way a college could check that, but I suppose that's what they'll assume. However, I would like to do it in one. Although I feel that's it's a no-no. What do you guys think?

i'm not really sure. but i would think that an adcom could just think that you are saying that for every other school. if this is a why essay you should just demonstrate that this school is the best fit for you. be like i feel like this school is a pefect fit or is the best fit. personally i think that sounds more sincere

i woudl suggest leaving it out of your essay

for princeton, i wrote an essay that related to the experience offered at p'ton but i didn't say that it was my first choice

then i wrote a letter to the admissions committee stating that it is in fact, my first choice

so you can always go that route.

It's a bit too easy to say a college is your first choice, I would think. It's much more effective to imply that it is through anecdotes, examples and specific details about what it is you love about that university. If you avoid those specific words but communicate enthusiasm for the school, then you'll most definitely leave a positive impression on the adcoms. Saying straight out "____ is my first choice" can be construed as forced.
