On the forums here, a lot of CC users who want to get chanced are asked their income because there's a widespread belief that a lower income will equate to higher chances of admission for HYPS-level schools. (It shows that you've overcome obstacles and such, according to the chancers.)

However, I'm filling out the CommonApp right now and I don't see any place where I fill out family income. The only thing they ask is if you're going to apply to need-based finaid, which is a huge income bracket (I don't know the exact figures but it was something like $200,000 to $0 income will qualify for some sort of finaid at HYPS). Am I missing something?

If you’re applying for FA, then you’re required to submit a CSS profile from CollegeBoard around the time of the application deadline. (Check each college’s website for details) Then, in January/Feb, you’ll have to complete the FASFA.

The Common App itself doesn’t have anything about income.

@HelpWithSchools: Man, HYPS type schools still need those documents to see how much aid they need to give you. Its not that they “claim” something, and follow something else. A need blind school is need blind, they just need the figures on the CSS profile or the FASFA to know what aid to give you once ur in.

The Financial Aid office is different from the Office of Undergrad Admissions. For need blind schools, they are separate and have no influence on each other for the admissions or aid process.
