Incoming Freshman

Hi I just got my acceptance to Pitt main campus and will most likely be attending in fall of 2017! I have many questions that i’ve began wondering about and any help is greatly appreciated!!
I was just wondering where I should dorm? I am very social and want to meet lots of new people. Also what is the party scene like? How is the neuroscience program for anyone who has that major?? What are the best dining plans? and if you could share your personal experiences at pitt!! thank you!

Mom of 3 Pitt students (1 graduated, 1 graduating this yr, 1 soph) - if you are very social - people will recommend Nordenberg (new dorm with smaller rooms but central campus) or Towers (also Central and known as the heart of socialville), but you will and can meet lots of new people irregardless of where you room. Neurosci is not for the faint of heart at Pitt - it’s very well regarded and very tough. If you are in the honors college, and want to major in Neuro, consider rooming at Sutherland - in the honors LLC. Best dining plan = lowest tier allowed, with most dollars and least swipes.

One of the advantages of living in Towers or Sutherland, is having a dining facility in the building, especially in the winter. But Nordenberg isn’t far from Market Central either.

My D is a freshman and lives in a Towers. It is very convenient to food, working out, and classes. She has made lots of friends so is seems like a social place from my perspective. She had been afraid it would be too much of a party dorm, but that has not turned out to be true for her.

As for parties, I know at the beginning of the year she was going to a lot, both at frats and off campus. But then it got old and she has backed off a lot. I think the parties are still there but the novelty passed and she realized she really isn’t that much of a party person.

Sorry I don’t know anything about neuroscience as my D is a humanities type.
