Incoming Freshmen Auditions

Same ^

I called the admissions office and they said that emails will be going out this week

@gmo913 Did you receive an answer to your questions? Thanks

Just heard from ball state , got a yes by email

Hello, @gmo913

Sorry I missed your question!

Essentially, our Theatrical Studies degree is a general theatre degree that our students can use to gear their studies to whichever area of the theatrical field most interests them. We have had very successful students graduate from the Theatrical Studies major and go on to jobs in performance, box office management, musical theatre direction, playwriting, dramaturgy, etc.

At our very first on campus audition in November, any current student who wishes to re-audition for any of the BFA majors may do so.

If the faculty is considering you for placement in one of our BFA programs after this audition, you will be eligible to take a placement test in music theory, sight singing, and piano. If you can place out of these musicianship courses that our BFA musical theatre majors take in their Freshman year, there is a possibility (depending on numbers) of being added into that years current class. If not, you will join the Musical Theatre class the following fall. In that case, you would spend 5 total years at Ball State University.

Hope this helps! My apology for the delay in response!

@BSUjeff - as redirection (No for Acting/MT) notices are coming out, can you give an idea of how many BSU freshman re-auditioned the past few years and how many were accepted?

@BSUjeff Does everyone get a redirect to BA TSO when they get a no to BFA MT or is that selective too and I’d be interested in knowing the answer to @momadrama 's question. What is the criteria to get that November audition and is their a cap on how many more you can take or just based on how well they do? In terms of how you explained the TSO in the post from last year, are you saying that the student would have to pass all three of those placements to even be considered for BFA for the current year? Even Piano? Thank you!

Hi, @momadrama !

Sorry to have missed your question. Around 20-30 re-audition every year. Two years ago, four students got in and this year three students accepted. It differs from year to year! Many people come in with the intention of re-auditioning but realize that they are extremely happy as a BA in Theatrical Studies and choose to stay as that major.

Let me know if you have any other questions! We check the theatrestu@bsu.edu email everyday, and we are happy to help in any way!

@BallStateChrissy thanks for the response! Will definitely email if we have additional questions.

@BallStateChrissy So is the re-direct into the department selective?

@BallStateChrissy Daughter is seriously considering the BA redirect for a theatrical studies. We are all comparing pros/cons of this to an MT BFA she was offered. She is very interested in combining this with a minor in Film/screenwriting in the Comminications school. Would this be possible? And would she still be able to use her BA electives for additional acting/performance classes? Thanks.
