Do any of you have an incomplete CAB, one that starts in the middle of the Biology and Medicine classes on page 49? Mine does this, and I’m completely missing all of the pages with courses before page 49. I know I can simply go online to find the courses, but I find it easier to circle all of the courses in the book. Should I call them and have them send me a new one? – i don’t want to incur the $5 charge for the new book for their mistake…

why not call them up and tell them the mistake, they prob wouldnt charge.

boca.brown.edu

In this day in age, I still dont understand the aversion to the far easier process of going through things online. Even better than boca is:

http://mocha.cs.brown.edu

Mocha is great because you can keep track of classes you like and look at a potential schedule.

modest, you're the reason that there's not gonna be a CAB in a few years! Online's great, but looking through the book can be really useful in terms of finding things you wouldn't see otherwise.

I often look through Boca/Mocha in departments that wouldn't normally interest me, looking for cool classes. I would hope that most Brown students would be mature enough to use the internet to find classes "by accident," so to speak.

I completely disagree mgcsing. Go on BOCA, enter a time block, and go through it. Or even better, go on mocha, check out all the time slots you have open and go through it. It's far more convenient and quick as well as having more up to date information. The CAB is most useful as an easy way to not have to surf through a cocentrations webpage to find requirements, although, there is a maste rpage with all the requirements online that even makes that use questionable. I find far more online than I ever did flipping through the book, and was always surprised at the things I found online and that it didnt catch my eye earlier, etc.

Oh come on, "mature enough"? Get off your high horse... lordie!

A huge number of people like actually flipping trough pages to find courses. The majority of my friends feel that way. You can highlight courses (with a real highlighter) and you get a nice physical association with where you found the class. This is the same reason people print out readings for courses. I like both of you, but come on... I'm only a Junior and I'm already feeling nostalgic for the good old days when people read the CAB...

gee, can't wait for the heated paper-or-screen debates at Brown

what? i love the word debate but i dont know what that is?

mgcsinc -- Sorry if that came across as sounding stuck up! Wasn't trying to imply that you or anyone else who prefers to pick out classes on paper is immature.

I realize that lots of people prefer using the paper version. I don't mind it myself, but I prefer Mocha, especially for the reasons modestmelody brought up -- I often will go through a block I have free and look at all the classes. I've discovered some really interesting classes that way, and have ended up taking them after finding them "by accident." I think that if they get rid of the paper version, it would be a shame for people who prefer it, but I don't think it would prevent Brown students from accidentally finding cool classes and branching out of their main interest areas.

ILoveBrown: I agree wholeheartedly. Thank god for Mocha and the students who gave it to us...
