OK, my SAT essay was a disaster!! I gave the SAT 2 times and even though I thought I wrote an impressive essay, when I later viewed it on the internet, I realized why I only got 8/12.

BUT my application essay is wayyyyy stronger than that! Like recently I read a lot of books about writing essays (elements of style and other stuff from peterson's etc.) and I realized why my essays fall flat. After reading that I made serious improvements to my essay.

The end result........a personal statement that is excellent and a SAT essay that sucks.....will adcoms notice the discrepancy and think that I didnt write the personal statement myself....or do they know the condition under which one writes an SAT essay and the condition for a personal statement ....... I mean will this provide justification to the discrepancy???????

Whats worse...I wrote my main common app essay in 4 weeks or so and my supplemental essay in an hour (coz I had 10 supp. essay to write)!!! The next day i read my supp. esay and it was almost CRAP!! how will the adcoms take it??

I don't think it will make a huge deal the inconsistency between the SAT essay and the personal statement. Although I would say a crappy supplement essay could definitely hurt you.

They understand that there is time pressure and no time to revise, but that's not an excuse. Plenty of people write really great essays in that time period. Also I believe many school are not looking at the essay this year, and if they do it will not count nearly as much as your other essays.

If they think there is a major inconsistency with your common app essay and results from SAT they would probably look to your English and writing grades from school. If you have an amazing essay and mediocre grades, that looks quite suspicious, much more so than a poor SAT essay.

ok--breathe! seems like you're stressing a little too much. first of all, 8/12 is NOT BAD. even the college board knows that--heck, i only got a 10 on the essay, but i still got an 800 writing b/c they know that the essay is a very iffy area. it is extremely difficult to get a 12 essay--in fact, i don't think i've even seen anyone on cc who has. if college board knows to weight the sat essay less, i'm sure colleges will too.

also, i seriously doubt your supp. essay is crap. and i congratulate you on spending 4 weeks on an essay--i wouldn't have the patience. if you'd like to pm me your essay that you're worried about, i'd be happy to look at it, and i'm sure others wouldn't mind either. have you sent it in yet?

I got a 12 on the essay.

i got 11 on my essays three times in a row, and i only wrote barely over one side and didn't even finish two of them.

i wrote the worst SAT essay ever, it was so ridicuosuly bad and lame, but i filled up every line on the 2 pages. (which unofficially guarantees you a 10+)

sat is looking for quantity not quality, regardless of what they say

eh.... i filled out each and every line too.
but i guess it was the legibility.......when i viewed my essay there were more dots and lines than alphabets......i mean anyone could have gotten confused with an 'e' and 'i' and between fullstop and a comma.
maan.......everyone around me got 8....even the best writrs......even the worst!!

i also got nailed at my SAT scores...
i gave the SAT 2 times and scored only 640 in writing, both times.
my verbal did increase though from 580 to 690..still not good though.
but i aint giving a third time. dont want to waste any more money. i'd rather apply to lower colleges
