Okay I have started the first semester of my High school career, and so far I’ve done terrible. These were my 9th grade 1st semester grades.
Biology Honors - C
Algebra Accelerated - C
Lit Honors - C
World History Honors - A
It’s now two months into the second semester and I have all A’s. But I’m really worried though that this first semester is going to haunt me for the rest of high school. If I continue with straight A’s and extra curricular activities, will I be able to get into a good 4-year college?
Yes! Colleges, even the super-elite ones, know that it was your freshman year! I heard that Berkeley and Princeton even forgive some blemishes, so long as they are in the first year.
Yes, colleges forgive first semester. I remember tons of my friends, brilliant students at a top school, getting F’s and C’s and all sorts of horrifying grades their first year. A lot of them are at great schools now.
Have Hope
Many colleges don’t even look at freshman year grades (none of the UCs, Stanford).
Like everyone has said, but try not to ease up too much. It might just be your freshman year, but you want to get into the habit of working harder as early on as you can.
So Ivy League schools don’t care for first year grades?
Absolutely! Everyone started talking about Stanford and Princeton because CC is like that, but what colleges are you looking at?
All of them care, as far as I know. (At the very least, they care about class rank.) If you’re also interested in Stanford, they say the following:
