Increasing Reading Score

Hi,

I’m an international student whose native language is not English. I took the June ACT and got a 33C (29English, 34Math,32Reading,35Science) without any prep. after the test I did some practice tests, and I got 34 English and around 30 Reading, which is pretty weird looking at my actual scores. I’m still worried about my reading because I have a hard time finishing all 40 questions; there is usually only 3-4 minutes left after I finish the reading section.

I plan on increasing my composite to at least a 34, and I will be taking the September ACT. How did you guys improve your reading scores? Any suggestions on how I should study?

You are doing very well on Reading, especially for someone who is not a native speaker. I presume you have both the red book? Download all the extra reading passages from the website and do those as well. Don’t rush this section. You should only have 3 minutes left at the end – you are going fast enough to finish and slow enough to give each passage as much time as is available. This is the most time-consuming section for everyone.

Target improving your English score – grammar rules are easier to memorize and drill, and it’s the only subscore that’s below 30.

I have Meltzer’s ACT English and ACT Reading; they are helping me fine so far. What is the red book?
