Hi guys,

Just been feeling depressed lately, and had to vent, and I'm seeking any type of feedback. I'm in 10th grade, honors geometry math, and I was given the opportunity of taking the 11th grade January final today; I'd been self studying for some time. I took the 11th grade one first, which was Algebra 2, and did fairly well, in my opinion, however, I keep finding out that I got numerous questions wrong, and its really upsetting. My reason for doing this would be to join Algebra 2 the next semester, and then do calculus in 11th grade, so I can somewhat catch up to the incrementing competitive academic world, where kids do calc in like 5th grade. I'm exaggerating, albeit trying to get a point across.....Now, I had to get over a 90 on the final, and if I don't get in, humiliation from all sides won't be the only thing pouring in. (My school is very traditionalist and gave me a hard time to even let me take the final; furthermore, the boorish kids in my school incessantly taunt others who try to further themselves). I'm usually very good in mathematics, I'm just very upset if I've relinquished the chance to get in. I can't even study for my final tomorrow, I'm just so nervous...

P.S. I got a 100 on Geometry, but I'm really counting on this.....and I continuously keep finding out which questions I get wrong....

Why make a copy of the same thread?

Or multiple copies on different forums?

Narcissist?

Well… that doesn’t mean you make over 4 threads about the same topic.

All I can say is, that is your fault for missing the questions.

And who cares what others think. Do you, don’t give a **** what anyone says.

There’s not much that can be helped. Kick ass and keep moving.

Lol, whatever. And, what do you mean? Now I can only take Calc in 12th grade, and I’ve lost a shot at any math awards/ position in honors math if I did bad on this.

Only take calc in the 12th grade.

Only going for awards? Dude… after HS no one gives a **** about awards and what not. You did what you did. You got what you got. If you did poorly, oh well. No use crying and *****ing about it, because nothing changes about it.

Like I said, I’m aiming high, and the plethora of excellent applications take having completed calc in like 9th grade for granted. Now I have to wait another two ****ing year! Sorry for being vociferous, but you gotta understand my frustration, especially when finding out that the final had questions that each regular teacher told their class, yet I who studied independently remained uninformed of this.

That is your fault.

And the amount of 9th graders taking calc is still a small number. Don’t compare yourself to them. You could still have an excellent application without taking Calculus in 9th grade. Are you informed?

Is your aiming high any special? I mean for crying out loud you’re on CC. If you’re so interested in getting calculus learned… take it at a CC, online course, or self-study that.

Algebra 2 seems a tricky course to self study. I saw a lot of people in my school try it, and all failed. Was it the matrices or something?

Calc in senior year is fine. If you want to get some math awards, look at some math competitions like AMC; they don’t require anything past geometry.

If you didn’t do well on the Algebra II then you shouldn’t be crying about not taking Calc since you clearly don’t know Algebra II that well…

And please stop using “big” words just to sound smart. It’s obvious that you’re trying to plug in a long word just to impress us CCers and/or seem more intelligent.

There’s nothing wrong with taking Calculus your senior year. And if you really weren’t good enough to pass the Algebra II final, you don’t deserve to skip a grade. Maybe you didn’t work as hard as you should have worked. Or maybe you’re not as good as you think you are.

@conquerer 7, yes things such as that. Again, the final this year was made much harder, since there’s a new math chair. Thanks, though. :)

@Totalderiv, I know it perfectly fine, my errors were what you would call “dumb mistakes”. When put in a tense environment, I usually don’t do that well; sorry for not conforming to your higher standards, and I feel bad for your potential children.

@314159265, see previous post.

We have another joz on our hands.

Son you’re not clutch. You failed in a pressure situation. You’re a failure. If you can’t do well on the alg 2 part, I’d suggest cimmunity college.

You held yourself to something you can’t do. You failed. Your vocabulary is basic, and unimpressive. Have a good night.

Go out and get a 2400 on your first SAT attempt and then we’ll talk.

EDIT: In fact, go ace the Calculus BC test as a sophomore, too. I mean, if I (the “****ing dumbass”) got an easy, easy 5 on that AP test as a sophomore (along with 5’s on AP Euro, AP Physics B, and AP French Language), I’m sure you could do it with your hands tied behind your back.

OP, there is no shame in taking calculus as a senior. The vast majority of high school students will graduate without ever having taken a calculus course at all, so taking it even in 12th grade puts you a step above many people. Hope for the best, but if it doesn’t work out, don’t beat yourself up. Your future success and fulfilment are not contingent on your conforming to CC’s preconceived notions of academic excellence.

To everyone else ITT, chill the **** out.

^Cool SAT score, bro.

@Jacobtess, I think you better listen to this 314159265 guy. He is clearly more intelligent than you. And while you’re at it, try not to be a bombstic loser with a baseless ego.

314159265, Did you really get 2400 on your first try? AND 5s on AP Calculus BC, AP Euro, AP Physics B, and AP French Language as a sophomore?
Wow, I dim in comparison.

So much for that. Also, cool fake account.

Wait, what?

EDIT: Oh, that. Hmm, I guess I have a fan base now.

^Wow dude you’ve got some Ego for a 2400er and for three fives. No wonder people like you usually get rejected from Ivies…it’s a blessing…the ivies could use less cocky people…
