Traumatic Mathematics Final !!

Hi guys,

Just been feeling depressed lately, and had to vent, and I'm seeking any type of feedback. I'm in 10th grade, honors geometry math, and I was given the opportunity of taking the 11th grade January final today; I'd been self studying for some time. I took the 11th grade one first, which was Algebra 2, and did fairly well, in my opinion, however, I keep finding out that I got numerous questions wrong, and its really upsetting. My reason for doing this would be to join Algebra 2 the next semester, and then do calculus in 11th grade, so I can somewhat catch up to the incrementing competitive academic world, where kids do calc in like 5th grade. I'm exaggerating, albeit trying to get a point across.....Now, I had to get over a 90 on the final, and if I don't get in, humiliation from all sides won't be the only thing pouring in. (My school is very traditionalist and gave me a hard time to even let me take the final; furthermore, the boorish kids in my school incessantly taunt others who try to further themselves). I'm usually very good in mathematics, I'm just very upset if I've relinquished the chance to get in. I can't even study for my final tomorrow, I'm just so nervous...

P.S. I got a 100 on Geometry, but I'm really counting on this.....and I continuously keep finding out which questions I get wrong....

Yeah, because worrying about your finals grade after having taken the final will help increase the score, right?

The best asset to have in a situation like this is a short memory. What you’ve done, you can’t change. (Obvious statement is obvious) You’re looking back for all the wrong reasons. Stop.

Also, nowadays kids begin calc in 2nd grade. Sorry to burst your bubble.

My first word was “derivative.”

Anyway, I second the forgetting advice. No point in remembering all that you’ve done wrong, unless you’re using that to better prepare yourself for the final. You say you’re too worried to study, but in the end that’s only hurting you.

You’ll be ok; algebra II really isn’t bad (if you think it is, brace yourself for calc…)

@HeWhoPwnz, Thanks, it’s just that in some cases worry overwhelms me.
@Francaisalamatt, first funny thing I’ve heard all day  . And it’s not that Algebra 2 is hard, au contraire, I think it’s easier than Geometry, but we were put into a freezing auditorium with about 400 people taking calculus, and the impending pressure was too much. Looking back, I could have gotten 100 with more focus and less tension. And funnily enough, I started studying at 8, and with minimal study, think I got 100 on Chemistry  At least something’s going good …

Again I say, you’re not clutch.

I bet you’re proud.

^^^neither are you.

… that said, I think you should forget about it for now OP. Your score won’t rise because you think about it. Relax!

@bsmd11, Fair enough, and thanks, he keeps commenting on my every post, o.O. I somehow hope I’ll be able to prove myself, since they set me up to take state Geometry finals in 2 weeks, which normal 10th grade honors geo students take in June…sorta banking on that opp.

^^ I’m sorry that you don’t personally know me or what I do in my life.

So please, don’t try to drink the awesome sauce.

^I don’t care what you do in your life. I’m making the same assumption that you just made about OP. I assume you don’t know him personally or what he does in his life?

So please, stop trying to be clutch.

Btw, guys, found out my scores. Geometry final exam : 92; Transcript grade: 97…Algebra 2/Trigonometry final exam: 75…This is sort of a “on-probation” moment. I can continue in Trig, as my very nice teacher said; however, the Head of the AP department might give a hard time when I try to get into Calculus next year.

^No ****. Don’t go into calculus if you’re getting a 75 on something like Alg 2/Trig. There’s seriously nothing wrong with taking calc as a senior; I’m living proof. Just get some more practice with your algebra, since good algebra is essential to good calculus. Actually taking the class will help.

Oh, lol, well out of 27 questions on the final, a 75 is about 5 questions wrong, since each is 5.

^Each question would be worth a little under 4 percent. Go ahead and stay in algebra. I realize that was a little “Oh crap, I wasn’t thinking” moment, but those screw entire problems in calc. Plus, taking calc is fine for senior year.

Don’t be embarrassed, if you go into math/science at a good uni, you’ll get to retake Calc 1 all over again anyway. Even if you take trig, you’ll screw it up plenty in calc as well!

Heheh, I loved geometry and loved trig just as much, got As in precalc/trig/whatever (college trig, too!) and in calc I still screwed up sometimes. These things aren’t gifts you’re born with - you just have to practice them until you get good at them, and boy do they take a while to get XD

I don’t think you’ll be at TOO much harm if you take calc now despite the 75 on the quiz.

OP, you are annoying and pretentious. And you care way, way too much.

The final was a fake test (I go to same school and took test as well, got 97, :P), rather artificial and trivial questions, all of which would not make one lose points on a USAMO problem, anyways, I jizzed when I saw this is had 289 views and 17 comments, how ****ing sexy is that? a square root/perfect square!!!

Someone with 70 can be qualified for calc, while someone with 100 can be unqualified for calc, all in all, for example I earned mostly 80’s and one 75 this semester, yes my absolute worst ever, needless to say I am studying Calculus BC self study and Olympiad math, :)
