indian classical dance?

hi,

I've been doing different types of Indian dance for over 10 years now. I've done everything from modern to classical. I'm part of a dance team that over the last 5 years has won many, many state awards and has gotten lots of recognition. Does this count as a substantial EC?

obviously, why would it not?

what do you consider "substantial"?

Yes. (10 chars)

is it as important as science olympiad (many medals at state level), marching band (officer 11th and 12th), and I'm a USABO semi finalist. I'm just wondering if it's worth putting on my app.

Of course it's worth a spot on your app.

ahhh...there's not enough room on the common app

how much would it actually help? how do you think an adcom would view my dance activities?

You've got lots of recognition, you say. That's gotta be good, right?

my team though...and they're indian organizations that we were recognized by, not like by the state or w/e.

what are your other activities?

I think the decision should be made by you. If this is more significant and more likely to impress the adcoms than some other EC of your's, then I say lay it down.

You're crazy not to include it ... send the schools you're applying to a separate resume, they won't mind. Seriously, not including it would be the epitome of dumb.

I second that. Science olympiad and marching band are fairly common (though still worth listing). Indian dance is a VERY unique activity, mespecially if you have been recognized with awards or honors. List it first on your app :)

Of course it counts as an EC. It's a pretty good one at that...
