Indian Medical Schools

Could someone give me some names of some good medical schools in India? Also what would be the requirements and the stats of a student that is accepted (international student)? If someone could give me some extra info on the entrance exams and such I would greatly appreciate it.

THANKS IN ADVANCE!

I think AIIMS (All India Institute of Medical Sciences) is the best one. Its in Delhi, and you write a hugely tough entrance test to get through. Very small number of seats though so it is extrememly hard. Dunno if it takes NRIs. http://www.aiims.ac.in/

Kasturba Medical College Manipal - definitely takes NRIs. Entrance test.http://www.manipal.edu/kmc/

Sri Ramachandra Medical College, Madras - Has links with Harvard Med School I believe. Entrance test required.http://www.hostindia.com/srmc/index.asp

Christian Medical College Vellore- great med school but non Christian quota is minute so be prepared for a fierce competition. Easier if you are a Christian :) http://www.cmch-vellore.edu/

There are others obviously...I'll think about them and get back to you. :)

Do you by any chance know what the entrance tests covers in general specifically for Sri Ramachandra? Is it difficult for international students to be accepted?

anyone??????

AFMC exam was yesterday...only 25 seats for girls which really sucks :(

Hi, what does the test cover and is a us high school senior capable of taking the test? and where do you take it? (here or India)

Well, this is a bit late, but I hope it'll answer some of your questions. My father went through AIIMS and JIPMER and he vouches for the difficulty of getting into these. I'm pretty sure that the entry exams are only in India. You see, in India there are a couple of main competitive exams the (PMT and the PET) Pre-medical test & Pre-engineering test; and each of these tests has its own legion of preparatory books, coaching classes and the like.
Also, top colleges like AIIMS, JIPMER, and the like have their own entrance tests and interviews. To give you an example of the toughness, there were only two seats offered for AIIMS in my father's field of speciality (surgery) and he got one of them. (but that's at the Graduate and Post-Graduate level), Regarding whether it'll be high-school level, the actual matter will be at that level, but the style of the questions and the level of trickiness, and twists is far more advanced, basically you need to purchase some prep books and see their content as well.
As for a list of under-grad colleges,
I'll give you the one's that I feel are among the best
1. AIIMS,
2. JIPMER,
3. CMC Vellore (but again that's a christian college, so there's a quota)
4. Edited to add AFMC (Armed Forces Medical College) I'm not sure if non-nationals are allowed or not though

But be warned, the level of intensity and the case rate and similiar factors make studying in these a very challenging affair ( the thing is these are also the top hospitals in their regions, so patient traffic and similiar criteria is high)

Hope this helped
