^ I also advise you to read Raja Ram Mohan Roy’s Vedic Physics. Search for it online.

It costs around a $100…I got it for $80. As you can tell, its a really valuable book. The concepts in that book actually changed the way I see Hinduism for the better. But I still think I should go and explore the world myself.

Thanks for the pointer. Right now I am happy with my understanding. My upbringing is in Advaita philosophy of Sri Adi Shankara and I don’t feel any contradictions at all.

^Because comparatively speaking, I’ve been told that Hinduism is the superior religion. Its been in existence for the longest (as long as humanity itself…no one knows presently who the founder of Hinduism is). Its most “logical” and respectable.

Yet I find no inner peace from it. When I visited India, the greatest temple known as Puri-Jaganath was completely trashed! I went there to seek solace, but no. It was dirty, filled with so many poor people, filled with corrupt priests who sucked money for entrance. They excluded any non-Hindus and those of the “lower caste.” It was a negative experience.
If God really existed, he wouldn’t be playing games. He would have helped his nation and he would have lead us to greatness. I don’t believe in “tests” and “Era of Darkness” crap.

If Hinduism was really the “right” way to go as my relatives and Hindu priests say, then WE should be world power. We shouldn’t have to be dealing with stupid poverty crap. We should be respected around the world. We should have been inventing most of the scientific technology (have you noticed how almost every scientific breakthrough is from a white dude?)
We should be contributing SOMETHING practical to the world.
Instead we do stupid things like arranged marriages (my parents don’t even love each other…they’re not even compatible, and I’m physically seeing how this is hurting me and my sister).

Its just a complete letdown when I see where Indians really stand in the world. That’s why I’m losing faith and I’m probably going to renounce my priest status…probably.

I agree with how corrupt religion can be in India. Even here in America I feel like some of the temples (I’m specifically targeting Swaminarayan) just want money and the most followers. At least they have good food I certainly have a faith, but a trip to the temple is anything but peaceful.

Arranged marriages have actually gone very well in my family, well except for a few. The caste system is also a bit archaic. It’s sad how people still use it in social terms (like when a woman keeps her Brahman surname).

I’ve just been ignoring the weaknesses in Indian culture. Do what makes you happy Quantum :)

Time to bring this back to the top
Has anyone seen My Name is Khan? It was so sad, and it sends a really good message that lots of Americans should learn from.

Yeah it alternated between really funny and really sad. The ending was a little cheesy which kinda ruined it for me, but it certainly maintained a strong message. 3 Idiots was still better lol.

i’m indian and also christian. it makes me laugh whenever people ask me why i’m christian, they say “but you’re indian!” some people also think i’m black sometimes… although my last name is a giveaway of my indianness.

lol @ bobtheboy
I’m Indian but look completely “whitewashed” so whenever anyone hears my super Indian name or hear me speak/read/write/understand Punjabi they always do a doubletake…

“i’m indian and also christian. it makes me laugh whenever people ask me why i’m christian, they say “but you’re indian!” some people also think i’m black sometimes… although my last name is a giveaway of my indianness.”

That’s really funny, because some people are like to me “Really? You’re Hindi???” I guess they can’t connect Indian and Hinduism lol.

It seems like Indians get mistaken for other ethnicities the most. Middle Eastern, Mexican, etc. It bothers me how some people see a turban or beard and automatically think of terrorists.

I do Carnatic! I look very Indian, I think so I’ve never been mistaken for anything else. Any other South Indians here? ETA" @bobtheboy - are you from Kerla?

wow, i know this is like a year and a half later, but i was reading a lot of the post and its crazy.
everyone has their own opinion
in one way i love being indian cuz its just amazing
and in the other way i hate being indian cuz indian parents get soo stereotypical, at least mine so yah

I like being an Indian and sometimes-actually a lot of times, I miss my own home country. What I hate about people do is they are so sterotypical of “curry” and crap like that. I don’t eat curry a lot of days, I mean I do but not that much so it just drives me crazy. I also hate that they say indian are “browns” which kinda disjusts me as well because I have some Indian friends and they are not “brown” or whatever but still indians, but overall, I do love my country and always will. My indian parents are not sterotypical but very “guarding” as to say…I guess.
