I'm not Indian but I plan on taking AP Comp Sci

lol, im planning on taking AP Comp Sci too next year!

Dude, integrate into American culture. Don't do all this cultural ********. I'm Indian by the way, and all these Indians at my school pretending to like all this homo garbage like bhangra, bollywood, and traditional clothes makes be want to puke. The only thing I can tolerate is maybe classical Indian music like Ravi Shankar, but even that's pushing it.

he gnrfan,
i can't stand it when people look down on their own culture and tradition, that honestly wants to make me puke. i am indian, and will always be proud of being so.

and you are trying to tell me to integrate into american culture? just to give you a heads up, i was voted homecoming king of my school, voted ASB President, and voted Mr. (name of highschool). if you think you are so cool trying to avoid your own identity, i pity you.

i might not come to my school in indian clothes, but i am proud to be indian.

I'm Indian, but a lot of times, I don't really feel connected to my heritage, although I am Bengali. Sometimes, I feel as if the only way for me to get close to my heritage is to read Jhumpa Lahiri. Does anybody else read her books?

I' am Indian. And uh that's about it. I agree with gnrfan and y0itzr0. I hate people who are too much (yes you can be too much. Hey let's go bhangra this weekend. No ****, I don't do that even though I'm Indian) into the Indian culture, but I also hate people who say things like you're American, American is what you should be.

Personally I'm way over on the American side of things even though I visit India frequently and have a lot of family here. Proof of this is seen in that we all like Ice Hockey. How many non - Torontoians Indians like Ice Hockey? Not that many.

Oh and I don't know who Jhumpa Lahiri or Ravi Shankar is, so maybe I'm totally lost. But people say I look a lot like Zakir Hussain (I know who he is too, I've actually met him).

According to Flight of the Conchords, indian people are cool.

rofl

(10 char)

i am indian, but dont really act like it. Even when i lived in india we were not really indian. We very rarely did the customs. My paretns raised me that way. I don't really like the indian culture. just my opinion. In fact one of the reasons we moved to america was to get away from indian culture and our family.

Isn't it hilarious how Indian moms always talk about academics, like there's no other topic on earth? Goddamn.

LMAO! :D

INDIANS!!!!!!!!!!! hmm..i like Love indians...you guys are myyyyyyy peeps!!! LOL. ... oh ya to the one who said its wrong to do bhangra on the weekends..blah..blah.. im punjabi btw!

so.

Balle Balle!

I'm not Indian, but I like some Indian music. The Bollywood films irritate me most of the time, the themes and stories are mostly redundant. My favorite singers are Lata Mangeshkar and Geeta Dutt, but I'm pretty old-fashioned. I don't care much for Punjabi music, I kind of think you have to be used to it before you enjoy it.

That's why I'm glad to be Latino.

We don't put each other down when we rep our culture.

And to contribute to the thread: Indian girls can be fine as hell! Too bad there aren't any of those at my school.

I'm Indian and am proud of being Indian. I sometimes act like I'm Indian and sometimes don't.

What I hate though is the people who always act sooo American and then turn around and try to act soo Indian at the Cultural Shows with the bhangra dance.

Lol I took AP Comp Sci too!!!

I'm Indian. The only aspect of my own culture that I'm really proud of is the food.

Oh and SOME of the music. I like some Indian jazz. I also play the sitar, or at least attempt to.

I'm not Indian and don't know much about the culture,
but I completely agree that people should be proud of and value their background. I think the food is great and the Indian clothing is absolutely gorgeous.

Somni gets the "funniest thread comment of the day" award.

Also, just to be sort of relevant, I LOVE Indian food. Especially samosas, they kick ass.

INDIAAA! bhaarat ki jai ho!

So I'm Indian, and I just try to be myself - there's a lot of Indian pride in there but I can't deny my American side. I am a HUGE baseball fan (as evidenced by my user name, haha) but I also really love cricket. I love rock music, but I still like bhangra. Don't look down upon your culture, but don't FORCE yourself to accept it.

I wish I could do Indian classical music or something, but the closest I can get is choir...

Any Indians here speak their mothertongues?
