Care to discuss our various struggles growing up with our loving but sometimes crazy immigrant parents? Haha.

Yup I know what you mean, but I think my parents gave up on me.

My parents don’t really care about what I do, as long as i keep the wonderful 4.0, get a 34 act (done!), and get into a ba md program (yikes).

Lol whenever I go to visit my family in India, it’s always: “Do you want to be an engineer or a doctor?”

The awkward moment when you don’t want to be either…

Brown girl reporting in!

My parents aren’t that bad, I don’t think. They put pressure on me, but it’s not any more than I put on myself, so :-/. Plus, I do want to be a clinician- scientist, so there are no arguments about that ;).

That being said, I am frustrated with their attitudes towards dating and stuff like that. They’re annoyingly conservative with those kinds of things and it gets irritating after a while :-/.

BROWN PRIDE! lol My parents just expect me to get straight A’s and become a pharmacist…

haha, luckily I don’t have to be an engineer or doctor or lawyer :D

Haha, even though I’m not brown, I must say…

PROUD TO BE BROWN!

yeah man. EDIT: that color doesn’t look brown. but whatever.

So what are you guys? I’m Punjabi! :)

fascination, Chinese people do not belong in this thread :P

I’m Bengali

Hey, fellow Indian here!

My situation is kind of flipped; my parents want me to be a engineer, but I want to be a doctor…

I’m from Uttar Pradesh…dunno if you guys know about it. I don’t often encounter people from my state.

lol @ the amount of brown people who want to become either an engineer or a doctor.

Hahahaha! Oh man. Yeah I often find that brown people enjoy math and science, so if it’s what you want to do, then by all means go for it! Screw stereotypes!

And lol about dating. I don’t even know…it’s not even like I’ve had an opportunity to date anyone (forever alone) but yeah I guess they can’t really stop me in college. And it’s not like we’re going to pick some drug addict who will get us pregnant! Sigh. Indian parents :P

oh, and I’m Telugu! (south Indian hehe)

Yeeeeeeee boyyyyy reppin’ Hyderabad, India!

My parents are pretty lax towards school. I guess it’s cuz I’m doing pretty well. but I got a few B’s and it wasn’t like the world ended or anything, thankfully. Lol.

ecounter- i’m from the UP too! haha lucknow swag. My parents are really cool actually. We had our moments after I asianfailed frosh year, but they’re cool with dating and not crazy about studies like some others.

Heh, my indian friend used to sing this all the time.

Sorry for Asian spamming. But I need to share this last link, and then I’ll stop. :)

98beebee, I love that song! Totally my jam right here. White-washed and proud (not really).
And fascination, lol at the video
twentythirteen, YESSS me tooooooo! haha at least from my dad’s side.

I can’t wait to meet more desi people in college! (if I even get in lolololol) We only have 4 brown people in my grade, including me, and that’s out of almost 800 people. So you can tell I’ve been deprived of Indianness for some time.
