Indiana/Jacobs prescreen system

Does anyone have any insight into when the replacement for Jacobs’ Decision Desk will be up to do prescreening material uploads? My son emailed them to ask and got a very vague response. Materials are due in three weeks and they still don’t have a system up and running. You have to submit recomendations through it and we have no idea what that will look like (uploading scanned form, electronic, etc.) - and teachers are going away for Thanksgiving!

Their website says that Decision Desk would be replaced in “early November”. Seems like someone dropped the ball – may be just a matter of not having updated the website? I would call – harder to give vague answers. Number provided is (812) 855-7998.

Yes, call them…and don’t be afraid to be slightly pushy…you’ll be talking to a grad student or an admin who will never meet your child. Jacobs is a big administration. You can call them up and ask what’s going on…and it will never impact your child negatively. I think in situations like this…it’s OK for mom to call. Knowing Jacobs I would recommend it.

My son emailed a few days ago and they said it was not ready yet but would be “soon”, so it is not a matter of a website update.

FYI, for anyone following. It is up and it is the Getaccptd system. I also inquired about recommendations, and because the system does not send the link to the recommenders until you submit your videos, they can come in after the 12/1 deadline.

I’m glad I’m not the only one who was confused by this! The website had conflicting information up to and beyond the deadline!

Has anyone heard back on admission decisions? My son has heard from every school except Jacobs.

Yes, my son received his acceptance a couple weeks ago.

@Kitty394 Thanks - when did he audition?

It was the end of January, so pretty early.

My experience is a few years out of date, but when my daughter auditioned for Jacobs as an undergrad, she did the first cycle of auditions and heard back within a couple of weeks. She had friends who did later auditions and they did not hear back until much later. It seemed that they considered each round more or less independently rather than waiting until the end of all auditions. In other words, not having heard back yet may not be a sign to worry about.

If this still holds true, Jacobs rolls its results. So some students hear early and others are held until the “bloody” end. If you have not heard yet, you are still in consideration. Jacobs is probably on spring break now as I remember celebrating St. Patty’s Day with my D several times. Hopefully final results will be out soon.

Yes IU is on spring break right now.

Thanks all, he auditioned in February so maybe those are not out yet. (I did not think that administrative offices were closed from spring break, but maybe they are?)

I don’t KNOW this but my general understand was that IU would accept some students a couple weeks after their audition and hold others. It’s not my understanding that they reject early…but I’m not sure. My understanding is some would be “held” to check other candidates. Also IU is large with many moving parts and different dept. so it’s hard to read. For example I would guess classical and jazz do their own thing and would see no reason to coordinate. And the wind dept and vocal dept probably feel no reason to coordinate response times. So results can be different. Plus IU can have a few teachers with big personalities who are going to do their own thing. So…just bc someone got an acceptance and you don’t…it may only matter with the same instrument on the same day.

Long story short…wait and see. IU is big with many moving parts so it’s tough to read. One year you could be accepted with scholarship…and then the yield is high…the next year it could be a no. It’s the tough part of “hard to read” big schools. Good luck. It’s a great school for the right kid…but there are MANY great choices.

does the school notify through email and snail mail?

It was snail mail 7 years ago but that has probably changed. For grad school, 3 years ago I know her scholarship info came on the last day in the evening by email bc she was waiting on it mad. But all communication went to her so I don’t know how they communicated the acceptance a few years ago.

The answer is — snail mail! He got in today!

Woo hoo @missjen!

Congrats @missjen. Glad he got his acceptance!!
