Indiana v. Michigan State ???

Can not decide between these two schools. Michigan offers me more free money and direct admits me to Board college of business, but Indiana ranks higher in undergraduate business program.

Any insights would be appreciated

Thanks

How badly do you need the $$$.

What's the difference in cost.

Indiana offers $5050 free money but Michigan State offers $8050

$3,000 isn't that much of a difference. Do Indiana and if money is really tight, get a summer job to make up for the slight setback.

...My parents say Michigan State has bigger reputation...

Is Indiana's business program much better than Michigan's?

Both are just about the same overall academically (both are ranked #74).

As for business, Indiana University is somewhat better than Michigan State...

Indiana has a much better reputation than Michigan State, in my opinion. For business, it's no contest. IU is the state's flagship university, Michigan State is the state's 2nd ranked university.

I've spent a significant amount of time on each campus, and I'd go for Indiana in a heartbeat.

BUMP.....more inputs?

Didn't know that MSU offers direct admit to Broad to freshman. Is this a new thing this year? Are you directly admitted to Kelley too?

For business, Kelley is better and more prestigeous than Broad ... unless you are interested in Supply Management or Hospitality.

It all comes down to personal preference. I know some people who hate MSU but love other places that I would never attend.

All those folks who say that MSU is not as strong as Indiana U are WRONG. Overall, these schools are comparable and quite good. Both are very pleasant college towns, but Bloomington is a bit smaller and therefore more manageable for some people. Also, once you get off campus, the area around Bloomington is a bit culturally conservative for some folks. East Lansing is no utopia, but students dominate the immediate community because of the sheer size of Michigan State University. Also, the comment about MSU being the state's "second university" really doesn't have critical significance. U of M and MSU are certainly different but there IS NOT a great distance between the two, particularly in the sciences. I will acknowlege that folks say that the U of M Business School is very good.

Do you have a source for MSU employment data? Could not find it on their site.

Kelley is the better business school.

Kelley is a better business school than Broad, but like mentioned above, hospitality management and supply management at MSU can NOT be beat, with a possible exception being Cornell for Hotel. But Cornell's program is service based and MSU's is business based so it's really not fair to compare them.

MSU has a very good reputation outside of Michigan (where in-staters have the blinding distraction of the other state school down the highway in Ann Arbor). Indiana has a reputation that is comparable.

Indiana's campus is much prettier. Students at MSU are a little smarter, statistically speaking. Indiana has an amazing music school. MSU has amazing programs in hotel, education, agriculture and international relations.

If you want to study abroad, there is no better school in the world than MSU.

Really a matter of taste and it probably depends mostly on the program. For business, and even being the active proponent of MSU that I am, I'd probably say Indiana.

According to US News the MBA programs are tied so I think MSU has gained on IU. Toss-up

really hard to decide....actually I was planning to go to Indiana, but I currently under the pressure of my parents...they want me to go to Michigan State...=_=....for the friends around me, nobody knows Indiana University

If Wall St is a goal IU is better. They have an Ibanking specialty.

I'm in-state for MSU, and i'd choose Indiana for business. Go to Indiana. It's a much better campus, better environment, and a better business school. Here are some rankings:

Major: Indiana/MSU
Accounting: 7/NR
Finance: 11/NR
International Business: 10/NR
Management: 6/15
Management Information Systems: 12/NR
Marketing: 7/NR
Production/Operations Management: 6/12
Quantitative Analysis/Methods: 9/NR
Supply Chain Management/Logistics: 12/1

Neither had a ranking for E-Commerce or Insurance/Risk Management.

Overall rankings: Indiana 11th, MSU 22nd.
