Indicating First Generation Student??

I was just reading over the admissions statistics for UC this year (Jesus!) - you can see them here: University of California Office of the President

Anyway, I noticed there was a breakdown for first generation students (which I am), and it made me concerned because I do not remember having any place to indicate this on my UC general app. I only briefly alluded to it in my personal statement, and also when selecting scholarships.

Am I OK in making UC aware of this status, or was there something else I should've (or can still do) done? I'm also submitting my TAP application to UCLA at the end of the month with my counselor, so maybe I should indicate it there as well?

Just a little worried, because I'm told it is a big plus in the UC review process.

im pretty sure on the application there is a check box that asks if you were a first gen. i think*

I just double-checked - there is no such option. Although I just read that UC defines first-generation students as those whose parents have not completed a college degree, and low-income students as those with family incomes below $80,000 annual.

As such, I’m guessing that the system automatically pegs you as first-generation and low-income according to the information provided.

If this is so, then I guess I’m fine. Can anyone confirm this though?

That is correct. You record your parents level of education as well as indicate it in the scholarship section.

Thanks Ella~!

Just be sure you don’t add in a sob story. Sorry if I’m harsh.

It does seem logical that you are a first gen if BOTH of your parents did not obtain a college degree. I listed it in the comments during my transfer application update just to be safe. Also in the scholarship section, I checked First-generation student
