I'm still undecided whether I should apply for a PhD in a theoretical neuroscience or computational biology. I'm 25 now, so if I get accepted, I'll be 26 when I start and probably around 31 when I finish.

Needless to say, I don't want to spend all my life on peanuts and on postdocs in my 40s, so even though ideally I would love an academic faculty position, I don't think I want to commit myself for a PhD if there are no alternative choices. (in case my PhD doesn't end up being stellar enough for chances in academia, for example).

So, are there good opportunities in industry for those with PhD in quantiative biology? Are the quantitative/programming skills acquired during the PhD useful for careers in industry even in other fields (finance, software...etc)? I'm also an international student so that might complicate things. Thanks for the help.
