What are some art schools that are not expensive?

Your instate college or university. Mass College or art is considered to be the most inexpensive in the US. It is less than $6,000 in tuition for even out of state applicants. SUNY Purchase and FIt, both NY State universities are reasonable. Some other state schools are reasonable such as UMBC in baltimore or Towson University in Maryland.

Alfred University has a College of Art and Design that is a public school (NY) within a private university. The facilities are excellent and among the best I've seen. The tuition is around $17,000 for out-of-state, but they have academic scholarships that can bring that down quite a bit.

BTW, MassArt is around 9K tuition for out-of-state. Still a bargain.

Sorry, I can't seem to find the edit button. The cost that I listed above for MassArt is per semester, therefore, the out-of-state cost would be closer 18K for tuition only per year.

Kendall College of Art and Design in Grand Rapids, MI (and affiliated with Ferris State University) would be somewhat cheaper than MassArt for out-of-staters. Tuition is about $15K per year.

thanks, i'll look into state schools in illinois that have an art program instead

I remember you from last year. What about Annapolis.

i made it into their prep school in newport, rhode island but my grades are bad so i'm close to not going to annapolis. this is my backup plan

(usna_reject)

These things tend to work out, but I know you must be disappointed. You could go to a college with an art program that also has a naval ROTC and earn your commission that way.

I just have to work extremely hard this last trimester. I underestimated how challenging the academics are there. If I fail out of the prep school I can't go into any other commissioning programs.

Good luck and work hard.
