Rice has many appealing aspects. It is inexpensive (because of tuition increase, don't know how true that will be when I attend college). It is close-knit and diverse- not too sure but it is an impression I'm recieving. It has top-notch academics and profs. The residential system is unique. The weather in Houston is such a relief from Boston's. Rice Village as I've heard creates numerous off-campus options for Rice students(not too sure if Houston is a "college town" though).

Are there other colleges, ones that are inexpensive, that imitate Rice and offer good academics and diversity?

Nothing compares to Rice. If you can get in you can get it paid for. I was only trying to help. Take a look before it gets picked apart by the online experts. University of Houston has Honors programs too.

Sorry, I did not read the condition that it had to be less expensive; at any rate, the thread-starter did not limit the college-suggestion to Houston, as I am sure there are plenty of pleasant-climate areas that contain - somewhat - comparable institutions at a modest fee.

In regard to University of Houston Honors, from what I have heard, a lot students in such programs are not pleased; however, perhaps such negativity is the product of the realization of how superior Rice is in comparison.
