I am new the board and see lots of discussion about Exeter, Andover, etc. Does anyone have a friend, daughter or son that attends St. Mark's? Are they enjoying the St. Mark's experience?

Hey,

I'm a private tutor in the Boston area (test prep etc.) and I have had several students from St. Mark's.

In general, students seem happy there. It's not nearly as high pressure as Milton/Exeter/Andover, but it's a selective school with very high quality academics. For some students, that's the best of both worlds. Like all boarding school students, St. Mark's kids are left somewhat to their own devices when it comes to completing homework and staying on top of their game. . . I'm thinking of a couple kids in particular that struggled to keep up their GPAs while living away from family in the dorms. . . But again, that's true of pretty much all boarding school students. If your student is accepted to St. Mark's and excited about going, I would definitely recommend it. I think it holds its own among the best boarding/prep schools in the country.

St. Mark's was very high on my daughter's list two years ago. They have a wonderful math department and are strong academically. My daughter's sport is figure skating and she chose not to go to St. Mark's because they would not accomodate her figure skating. I believe their sports requirement is three team sports a year, all 4 years which would not have worked for my daughter.
