Hello, i'm interested in Yale, and i'm hoping to be a recruited distance runner there. any advice from current runners/other athletes/students would be really appreciated!
thanks for any help!

I’d recommend you contact the coaches directly – they’ll be able to assess you rather quickly. There’s also a forum for athtletic recruitment on CC as well. This applies to Yale and the other schools you’re targeting. Good luck

ok, thanks. did you get recruited to run at an ivy? what do you mean by “contacting them directly”? and how would they “assess me”? any other advice would be great!

This applies for all the schools you’re targeting: Find out the appropriate coaches from the online college directory. Then email them introducing yourself – giving a brief rundown of your interest, your GPA/test scores and then your events and your best times. If you have any individual or team honors, mention them too.

You should also see what your own coaches have to say. Do they feel you’re an NCAA caliber athlete? Who do they know that might be interested in someone like you?

If you get no positive replies (i.e. they aren’t that interested), then you need to decide if you want to still apply even as a non-recruited athlete. Good luck

thank you, i have pulled together a bio page of myself(a soon to be junior), and i’ve talked to my coach about the whole thing. (she reccomended that i make a bio page and gather all coach emails, like you said). but do you know anything in particular about yale and their running program/what a typical recruited athlete might have? (test scores/gpa/times etc)
