Just found out that my D was assigned to the Atlantic Acting Studio at NYU. She is very excited but does not know a lot about the studio . Any info about the program would be greatly appreciated. I went on their website, but would really love to hear personal experiences and feedback.
Thanks so much!!
That’s David Mamet’s theater. We know a girl who went there outside of Tisch for the two year program and had a pretty wonderful experience.

My D is a Tisch grad who was in Atlantic. She graduated several years ago, though, so I can’t really comment with any particular current feedback. She auditioned at a time where you could request the studio you wanted, and it was discussed in the interview. She had done a lot of research by the time she auditioned, had visited Atlantic, sat in on classes and knew students who were already there. Atlantic was founded by William H. Macy and David Mamet, who used the Practical Aesthetics method of teaching acting. It is a highly successful theatre company, acting school, and studio.
My D loved her time there and her training was excellent. She is one of the very fortunate few who has been employed continuously in the business since she graduated in 2007. I won’t say that that is totally due to her being in Atlantic but it certainly is an important factor. The training, the contacts made, the performance opportunities, the approach to acting, the encouragement to continue her writing, all have contributed to her success.
Get your D a copy of A Practical Handbook for the Actor, if she doesn’t already have one.
Thanks so much for the information. I bought her the book and she is reading it now!
