NYU Studio emails just went out (FINALLY!!) my D was placed in Stella Adler. She's excited, which is great. Anyone have thoughts/insight they can share on the studio?

My D was assigned to Atlantic! She called to tell me that Atlantic is one of the small studios. I don’t know anything about Adler. I am wondering how my D is feeling now, bc she likes Atlantic - Tisch was previously her last choice. I wonder if this changes things…

you can read info on each studio on the tisch page - let me know if you can’t find it. i’m on the Atlantic page right now…

Unfortunately the Adler page is a little light on info - and hard to access right now as all NYUers are trying to read at same time. I know the basics of technique- my D has been using Stanislavsky method for 2 years at her performing arts school- so that’s an easy fit.I was more wondering about life inside the studio

maybe search “Tisch Adler” here on CC.

If at all possible, it would be good for your child to visit the studio he or she has been assigned to and talk to students there. My son was placed in Adler and was not allowed to sit in on classes, but we did get a tour of the studio, and he talked with an alumna who worked there. In addition, he had a phone conversation with an Adler student we found through CC, and that was helpful.

D has already reached out on social media and gotten friends of friends. But parents look for different things… For example- I know that the actual building is farther away from campus- how does that work with young ones alone in the city?

My voice student was accepted to Tisch and assigned to Strasberg. Other than the web sites, does anyone know anything about this studio? She wants to concentrate on acting, with a bit of singing - so it looks like that will work for her. Any other info is appreciated.

Voiceteacher2, does your student know about the approach to acting instruction that is used at Strasberg? It appeals to some students more than others.

Stella Adler is in a beautiful part of NYC. My son took classes there and had an amazing experience. He said the philosophy is sort of acting is acting/make believe. And it’s not far from Tisch at all.

@NJTHEATREMOM Yes, I think she is interested in method acting - if that’s the approach you mean. I think she’s more concerned if the quality of Strasberg as a studio is as good as some of the other studios.

sherryjane, congrats to your D! Atlantic is a very good studio.

@alwaysamom, thank you! D was really pleased!

Happy to share my D’s experience w/ Adler Studio.

I’m currently in Adler and can answer any questions if anyone wants!

ohhh I have several- mind if I PM?
