Hey so I’m an Australian year 11 (junior) student who’s interested in attending a university in the US. I’ve been looking at some liberal arts colleges and I’ve got some questions about Berea College.
-it says that 100% of tuition, room and board are paid for the first year but students are expected to pay a sum of money for their expenses over the following years- I don’t remember the exact number now by I think it was a couple thousand dollars. Now, my question was what you actually have to pay in your second, third and fourth (depending on the length of your course) as an international student- do you pay room and board?
Cheers

Hi Australian.Junior, I’m a rising sophomore at Berea. The way the tuition works is you don’t really have anything (tuition&room board) in your term bill the first year. Every year after that your term bill increases, typical from $400 - $700/semester. Since every student at Berea College works, you should not be in trouble if you plan your money well
Berea has not got any Australian student (as far as I know), so I would definitely encourage you to apply.
Good luck!

Thank you! I’m not quite sure I’d get in, but if I did it sounds like I might be able to afford it.

Hey I’m also a junior and I’m going to apply. I live in CO under the deferred action (work permit+ssn) but I can’t get loans or join the military. I have a 3.95 GPA, 24 on the ACT and my family income is 21k. Do you think I could get accepted?

I would say apply, but treat it as any of your top schools application. Basically like any IVY application, because competition is very intense for international students. Put in your best, but also do not hold your breath; apply to other schools as well. If you get in…then you will be among the lucky few.
Then again, you said you might be able to afford it. Students @ Berea are typically not able to afford college, this getting a full 4 year tuition. You might want to run the financial requirement calculator first from the College website to see your eligibility.
Best of luck to you.

Thank you for your reply. I’ll have a deeper look and decide if it’s really a place I would like to be, I don’t think I should apply based simply on the idea of getting 4 years tuition paid haha.
By I can afford it, I meant if I got in they’d pay 4 years tuition and I could possibly cover the room and board!

@amarantadom: All I can tell you is Berea is not only about grade. Pay attention to your community service/extracurricular activities/volunteer, which will help you with your essay. Do some research about the school and see whether you’re connected with their Great Commitments.

I am afraid that is not how Beara works. To even qualify to apply, you must meet the financial cut off requirements, and that must be done on the college’s website.
Don’t worry about the fact that “if it’s really a place I would like to be”… ; As an international student applying to Berea, your chances might just be equivalent to getting into Harvard or MIT (its one student per country and most times none from one country… as there are roughly about 30 seats for incoming international freshman. There are applicants form more than 100 countries… not including multiple applicants from each country…so you do the math. The same is the admission take for most IVY leagues or schools that meet 100% of admitted students demonstrated need. That is just something to have in mind when considering to apply… Thus the mention of putting in all your best on your application if you do choose to apply…
Best of luck to you.

hi guys I’m from Vietnam. I was looking for schools that give much financial aid and suddenly Berea caught my attention for its generous offer. So now I wonder how exactly can an international student get that huge offer ? My SAT score is 2030 (higher than the average score) but my family can only pay up to $10,000/year. Is there any chance I can get into Berea with that small payment ?
I would like to know what are my chances of getting into Berea College.
