Information Science/Technology

I've been looking to make a career shift and acquiring some new skills will be necessary.

I have an undergrad in Poli Sci, but I'm looking to get a background in IT.

I found two programs that are very reasonably priced that would allow me to get a BS in IT.

I'm interested into getting into IT security primarily, in the long run.

Is the a BS in IT a good starting point, then acquire certifications? I'm a bit confused by what an IT degree offers compared to Computer Science.

Have you taken a comparative look at IT programs versus computer science programs at universities in your area? I don’t know much about either fields academically, but I’ve always gotten the impression that computer science is more theoretical and mathematical than IT programs.
