I received a letter in the mail today that states " I would like to invite you to attend a special West Point Information Session . . . Each year, we try to identify those top level students who may be competitive for admission to West Point. Your interest in West Point and / or your academic and leadership accomplishments are among the factors that may have identified you as the type of person who may qualify for the challenging programs offered at West Point..." I was wondering if anyone has ever received a similar letter. If so, was the seminar helpful? Also, does anyone know if this letter is legitimate, in the sense that they don't just send it to anyone? Thanks for all of your help. I am definitely planning on attending, just want some feedback.

yep - my daughter went to two of these - once as a sophomore and once as a junior.
Is your name on the West Point mailing list? If so that may be how you got invited.

If you are interested in applying to West Point then I really encourage you to go. The sessions are very helpful. People who may be there include: WP Admissions officers, MALO's, congressional liasons (our congressman's nominations manager was at one we attended) and a West Point Cadet.

The format will probably include a slideshow about the academy, the cadet leadership development system and admissions. The cadet may talk about his/her experiences as well.
After there will be time for one on one questions and answers.
This is very informative and a great way to get factual informations and your questions answered.
Take your parents as well!

Our son received the letter you mention and went to one of the sessions. He had already met with his field rep so most of his questions had been answered but he did find the questions and concerns that the other attendees addressed to be helpful though. I'm not sure how they selected those that received the letter. I recall there being several sophomores and juniors there so it might have been as a result of inquiries they had received from interested students.

This is an awesome opportunity!!! I just went to one this past fall and it is very informative. They covered both USMA and ROTC and had lots of information and pamphlets for each. I'm currently a sophomore and hope I can go again next year!
