Hello!
I am a student who is going to attend a CC called College of Dupage in Summer. I plan on transferring to either UIUC, UIC, or IIT (based on whichever accepts me first). I am very interested in Computer Science and ITM. I know the CS program is good at IIT. But how strong is the ITM program? The ITM really interests me since it seems to have a strong program for cyber security. Since both ITM and computer Science are technology majors, at IIT, which one one has the advantage over the other? As I’ve said before, I am very into cyber security. So maybe that can determine which major will be best.
Thanks!
(The only reason why I posted this is that I can’t seem to find any other discussions on the ITM program nor can I find an actual ranking compared to other colleges for ITM specifically)
ITM is in the School of Applied Technology while CS is in the College of Science. The ITM degree requires less mathematics that the CS degree and is focused more on on practical aspects of information technology and less on software and algorithms. From what I can tell, the graduates of the ITM program find good jobs as IT specialists. I am not sure that there are any rankings of such programs though as they are newer and not as academically oriented as CS (by which I mean that the Professional Masters is the terminal degree instead of a PhD). You should contact the School of Applied Technology and get more detail from them directly.
As for admission, IIT is on a rolling admissions and will act on an application within a few weeks of it being completed.
Thanks! I was actually planning on visiting the campus this week to directly ask questions. I will contact the Applied Science office tomorrow
