UIC VS IIT Computer Science?

I’d like to transfer to either one of these universities, any input or suggestions on how to decide which one is better? I love both campuses, but just curious which would be better in terms of job outlook after graduation

Thanks.

Which is most affordable?
Do you live in Chicago and would you commute?

You could do well at either since the same companies probably recruit at both. Decide on the basis of cost and fit.

MYOS1634, UIC is most likely more affordable. However, if IIT is that much of a dramatic increase in reputation than UIC I would be willing to go there.

Xraymancs, So from what You’re saying they’re pretty much similar in terms of reputation?

IIT is much stronger than UIC.
However costs matter. If both are affordable, pick IIT but if IIT would require your parents to take loans it wouldn’t be worth it.

Myso what makes IIT much stronger than UIC. If anything I would think UIC is stronger since it is more known and is part of the Illinois system with Urbana Chaimpaign . What exactly makes IIT stronger compared to UIC?

bump

UIC is mostly a commuter school known in the Chicago area (people wouldn’t confuse it for UIUC, or if they do it means they don’t know much). It’s a decent local university. On the other hand, IIT is well-known, especially for CS or architecture, in the entire Midwest.

Some stats from the CDS submitted by each university:
average GPA for admitted students : UIC 3.2, IIT: 3.9
average ACT score: UIC 24, IIT 28 (in fact, the top 25% students at UIC score roughly like the bottom 25% at IIT)
graduates employed or in grad school within 6 moths: UIC unknown, IIT: 98%

@chatsalot42 - I did not say that they have the same reputation. Illinois Tech has higher admission standards and we (I am a professor at IIT) place a high fraction of our graduates. What I said is that it is possible to get a strong computer science education at UIC as well as at IIT. Mostly it is up to the student to take advantage of the opportunities available to her/him at whatever university attended. If you take the most rigorous curriculum possible and get involved in co curricular activities that can boost your professional experience, you can do well no matter where you go.

All that being said, I do think IIT is a good university but I am biased…

@xraymancs From what I understand from an admission standards as a transfer it’s actually more laid back than UIC. Example: UIC transferred retake grades are averaged vs IIt’s transferred retake grades are replaced . What do you know about Transfer admissions ? How competitive is it ? It seems less competitive than UIC since they replace grades ( not that I’m complaining ) I just want to know what I should shoot for gpa-wise at either school.
Thanks,

The admission rate is pretty high in general at IIT. This goes for transfer students as well. However, the average test scores of applicants and admitted students tends to be high because most of our majors are STEM and the expectations are high test scores so applicants self-select. The same goes for transfer students and their grades. Having a lot of retakes may not influence the GPA computation but it is certainly considered when looking at the application.
